Title: XJR oil cooler
Post by: 4everFJ on February 29, 2016, 05:13:56 AM
Anyone who has fitted an XJR oil cooler on the FJ?

It looks like it will fit with minor modifications, but would like to hear from someone who has done it.

Does it have a higher capacity than our stock ones?

The cooler is different and will take a bit of fab to get it to work. Probably not worth all the trouble, considering it is a popular mod with the European XJR owners to take their stock coolers off and replace with a better cooling system. Randy offers a tried and true oil cooler system, that many on here have used, that better suits our FJ with a much better cooling system. IMO it would be like trading a can of beans for a can of beans, it's a wash. Upgrade to Randy's and you are trading a can of beans for a filet mignon, much better trade off in the end.

Holy crap, for less money than a pair of tires (or five oil changes) I can get better capacity, and a thermostat, and it's a direct bolt-on?

I would loooove to get the RPM oil cooler. But, with shipping and possible tax/import duties, it could cost me around USD 350 and money is a little tight at the moment...

An XJR oil cooler is around USD 50 at local breakers.

The XJR oil cooler is significantly bigger (therefore I assume it will have higher cooling capacity) and it looks like I only need to fabricate a simple bracket to make it fit. It connects to the existing FJ oil lines.

I communte daily in stop and go traffic and for the mighty FJ that is no bueno. It was built for the high speed long hauls on the German Autobahn (no joke, Yamaha designed it with that in mind..) not for idling impatiently in traffic jams

I would like to hear from someone who has actually fitted one, just to get some input on mounting and cooling effect.
