when I select first gear theres a loud rattleing
Does this rattling happen for a short moment or is it continuous while in 1st gear? Are you sure this an FJ and not a Ducati? Is the rattle soft or a sharp? Does it sound metallic or something else?
it has only started this today, I was only moving the bike in my yard I may learn more tomorrow,,the sound is metallic but not a sharp sound
only time I have heard a rattling sound on my fJ was when something was broken inside --- it was on a side stand when i heard the noise -- 2 miles later pulling into my buddies place it locked up and threw me ( low speed - no issues other than that motor was put aside ) --
but if yours is running ok --- well I would take the clutch cover over and do an inspection -- replace the plates if you deem necessary because its off --- and hope you don't have the same issue I had ( PS -- my problem was just after a very very hard time just trying to get the bike into first gear so something went causing the catastrophic failure

I it a rattle or a rumble? My FJ makes a sound similar to some rocks tumbling around when letting out the clutch in first gear. I guess I haven't given it much thought, another buddies Yamaha did that and the PO said it was not a new sound for the bike. 2K miles later and no issues...
Maybe get a recording of the sound and share it here?
Starter chain rattle possibly ??
