Gonna try Randy's idea,just wondering could I add a addional pressure plate as mentioned oabove to his set up.if you can do youthink that would be over kill.like k owing ill have a stout clutch inmy bike.great info on this topic pat.thanks

G'day Shane. Just did the clutch slip fix on mine using the basic method. I did not add an extra diaphragm spring. To test, I had it thrashed on a M/C specific dyno with no slipping at all. An added benefit is this is the cheapest solution. :good:
I also replaced the after market clutch with a new OEM clutch, single spring, works just fine. The PO on my '89 had doubled up the spring, the lever pull on a stock master was much harder, I did not like it. Some of steel plates had coloring, so it slipped at some time.
I have new plates on both my FJs
I have the double springs on my 90 -- no slippage --- yes the pull is harder but i don't mind it. My springs were two used ones so two new ones might have a harder pull --- I figured two used are better than 1 new as far as preventing slipping and not creating too hard a pull.
My 86 has 1 new spring and there is minor slipping on it -- it catches pretty quick. Prior to the plate replacement and new spring it slipped really bad.

I gotta replace the clutch,the previous owner ran synthetic 10/40 automobile oil in the bike so he told me,he said"oil dont matter",ruined the clutches,I'm pretty sure motorcycles with wet cluchs shouldnt have friction modifiers in them.the bike slippes under hard excellaration in 3rd and 4th.just gonna replace it all so i know what i got.need the added assurance.

I would open it up and look at the friction plates and steel plates. If they are not in bad shape you could just drain and run some proper MC oil. See how that works. Worst case is it still slips and or you have some cooked steel plates. Then its time to go fresh and know its all set proper... My after market friction plates clearly had wear and a few of the steel plates had color so I chose new. Very happy now.... :dance2:
I already did a oil change w/filter,10/40 castrol for wet clutch.helped but it still slips,I can ride it,hate seeing the rpms climb and the bikes not going.gonna get the clutch mod from RPM with steel plates and new springs.i hope thatll last a long time.

You will be happy with a fresh clutch, you can't get your Kookaloo on with a shitty clutch...
I can't wait to get this clutch upgrade done.Those pilot jets transformed this bike coming outta the hole.
