Gentlemen, i would like to know if the mod from 16" back tire,(i have a new michlin pilot GT)to the 17" is just alitttle noticeable or alot...all things being equal in tires, ofcourse. thanks
i would say its worth doing...... i dont think it's affect on handling is as pronounced as swapping the front 16 to a 17 but the tire selection available for 17" wheels is where it's at brother!

Hugely noticable. Mostly because you can stop using horrible old tires and actually get the long wearing and adhesive modern ones.
Best dam mod you can do.... Improves handling and tire selection.. Road 2's best tire I have found...
IMO the thunderace swingarm and rear wheel mod is great. I shortened the dogbones from 125mm to 100mm. It lifts the rear up and now it handles like a totally diffirent bike. I now have a choice of tyres which I did not have before, but I use a BT021 180x55x17 rear. Worth it.
Dunno, but the fazer 1000 swingarm, with Thunderace wheel, sure is noticable :mocking:

I did the yzf rear wheel mod on my '86 and I agree with everyone on the better tire selection. Another thing I noticed, is the bike is a lot more composed over bumpy roads. I'm guessing its because of less unsprung weight which might not be as much of a factor on a later model. For the amount of work it was it was definitely worth it to me. By the way I'm running the stock shock.

The GSXR 17" swap is so easy it's almost a must do, and better tire selection too.

My bike is an 89 w/14k and in almost perfect cosmetic shape.... No nay's..that sums it up for the wheel swap! Bikes suspension/chassis is getting almost complete overhaul....All parts recently arrived,sitting in my garage and awaiting a few warm days; R6 calipers and M/cyl.;SS braided lines front and back;new pads front and back;RK chain and cush drive;front Racetech springs,15wt fluid;Hagon back shock;shorter dogbones;Kerker 4/1,new donuts,individual air filter pods;Dynajet kit;V&H ign.advance; and i did just locate a 17x5-1/2" wheel from a 93 gsxr 1100...so i guess i may as well go for it! All this $ i spent was in lieu of buying a beautiful,black 03 hayabusa i found local for 6grand.When i get all this done it should be like a new bike. Hopefully i can do all this myself in my garage. The only thing that intimidates me some, is the front fork items, as i have never got into this area before. You guys have been a big help...thanks very much!

I plumped for a fazer 600 master and a Xjr1300 clutch master, though the zzr1100 clutch master is the same item.

I weighed both the YZF Tace wheel and the old fj abs wheel complete with tyre and cush drive/ disc and they weighed exactly the same weight at 17.5kgs, it surprised me, though the swingarm must be a lot lighter than the steel 2xw one :good:

Wow! You gonna do all that at once? You won't know the bike. It will feel completely different.
Also, a pretty good list of items to change. Not much I'd even disagree with. You might want to wait on the ign advancer or the pod filters, but everything else is pretty bulletproof.

No issues as far as hurting anything, just that those who have installed them have reported no improvement.
If you make all those changes at once you won't know what worked and what didn't --- or worst case -- what stuffed up the great running bike you had. If possible its usually a better idea to make one change at a time. That way you know how each one has worked.
Yes, it is a bit less efficient.

I noticed a DEFINITE tendency to rev a LOT faster after I installed the V&H advancer on my '90.... 1st time I ran her she bounced off the rev limiter becasue I wasn't expecting her to rev so quick.
