Big business in stealing them too. Had a very interesting conversation with a gentleman a couple months ago whose job was tracking stolen heavy equipment. His latest find was a road grader similar to that one stolen out of Oklahoma. He found it 2 months later in Argentina. He said most of the stolen ones are shipped out of the country. It was on a boat in Houston the day after it was stolen even with the factory installed locators.  Dave

That is worth about 750K up here in Canada. We have had a lot of stuff go missing in the last few years. Big R

The days of the operator manually adjusting the swiss are long gone. That took some real skill.
All they have to do now is drive in air conditioned/heated comfort. Remember when they had open cockpits with just an umbrella for shade in the summer?

Catapillar stock sure has taken a beating lately.

Ok. So now bring that same machine to Australia.
Add 30% for our crappy dollar.
Add a 10% import tax
Add probable another 20 - 30% for dealer charges.
So it is now probably near the $500k mark.
Same for trucks.
A new Mack prime mover and trailer would be abot the $500k area

A buddy of mine works at the Cat headquarters in Mossville, IL. Maybe he can get us a discount.

Cat's been going through a slowdown, apparently. They've had recent layoffs and offered early retirement to some employees. That's not surprising, as many of the industries they sell to - mining, oil, construction - have a tendency to get real cautious every time there's an election coming up. Up until very recently, I worked for a company that makes equipment for bulk material handling. Conveyor belt scrapers, industrial vibrators, dust control equipment, etc. and they started panicking about 6 months ago.

Ours was about $250,000, not 6 wheel drive though.  I'm a supervisor on our local township board and most of our expense is road maintenance.  The Cat was actually cheaper than Deere after better financing and a better trade in value for our old Deere.  The Cat gets EXTREMELY better fuel economy too.
