Title: Indicators go mad at high RPM
Post by: DaveA on January 30, 2010, 03:50:50 PM
Hello,

Whenever my bike goes above 5k rpm, the indicators start going absolutely mad and flashing really fast.  I haven't been able to blame vibration for it, any ideas?  It does it stationary as well as whilst riding.  Could it be something with the alternator?  Any advice is appreciated.

Things 2 check:
1) Earths, (depends on model and there are several)
2) Wiring to flasher can, (wires the right way around)
3) Output voltage of alternator,
4) Contacts inside switch gear,
5) Replace flasher can.
This is based on the assumption that the indicators are already flashing when the engine hits 5K rpm
If the indicators just go nuts and they aren't already flashing then there is a short in the wiring harness.

Hello,

The indicator's work fine below 5k rpm in all situations.   It's an  84 FJ1100, what's the flasher can?

flasher can = relay that controls the blinky bits.  Prolly next to the battery someplace.

84 models are supposed to have a relay
on the main chassis near the stearing stem
under the fairing.
Cheers :bye:

i've never heard of this issue before...... i would look for some wires possibly chafing/shorting on the frame somewhere..... there is a wiring bundle on the right hand side that runs from under the fairing to the rear of the bike..... might be a good place to start looking.

Kookaloo!
