Title: engine noise
Post by: turbocamino on September 23, 2015, 01:49:15 PM
Gentlemen,  had my bike running today on the stand in garage ...let it get good and warm to do some carb tuning...no ear-plugs for this and i'm hearing some considerable clacking' type engine noises...that is,until i pull in the clutch...i know in a car it would be a through-out bearing...but i'm kindof lost on the bike...any ideas of what it is and what to do?  thanks.

Sounds like the classic starter chain rattle. Make sure your idle is up around 1100 RPM and enjoy your engine talking to you. I don't really hear it any more, having only ridden an FJ1200 for the last 17 years it is a normal sound.

Our air cooled engines overheat without airflow. How long did you leave it running?

The more i dig ,the more it may sound like the clutch pack...it changes alot when clutch is pulled...also,Pat you may be onto something as the bike does get hot fast sitting, thanks all.
