Title: Australian FJ Rally 19th March 2016.
Post by: oldktmdude on August 17, 2015, 05:59:27 AM
Due to some rooms having been previously booked (pushbike riders) at the above venue, it has been decided to change to another location. The new venue offers a lot more of our required facilities including having drinks, meals (including breakfast) in house. A group booking deal is also currently being discussed. Note also the new venue is in Harrretville not Bright.                 snowlinehotel.com.au (http://snowlinehotel.com.au)
The date for the Rally is still the weekend of the 19th of March. I apologise if this has inconvenienced anyone but please be asured this will be a great venue and well worth attending.      Regards, Pete. :drinks:

Great to hear from you Glen, looking forward to catching up with you and Nicky. Yes at this time, we have a block booking for those days. I'll be doing a ride in those parts second week of November. Never been there before, so I'm really looking forward to it.  Cheers, Pete. :good2:

G'day Tony, you're a roadworks magnet. I'll make sure that there's some deep ruts prepared for you before you get there.
It will be great to catch up with you. Might even try and meet you when we do our November ride. Should be returning via Lakes Entrance around Tuesday 17th.

The temptation of the roads & tracks of Europe plus of course decent paying work I'm afraid.
Plus I don't think I can really afford to retire here anymore and I'll be buggered if I'm going to work past 65.
I've been considering it for a few years and if I don't do it know I never will.
Being a pom most of family is back there............

Sounds good Doug. How many nights are the S E Qld and NThn NSW crew planning on staying.? I'm going to take a couple more days this time either side of the weekend as the ride to/from Jindabyne last year was a little rushed for my liking, want to stop and look at the scenery ths time.

I will probably book in Fri-Sat night and maybe Sun depending on the package tour itinerary

Just booked a room for 4 anxious FJ Rally attendees. According to Chrissie, it was the last of the larger size rooms. Get in quick to choose the best of the rest.
Ray, we may take a day or two to ride home. You're welcome to tag along if you desire.

I have just realised this Rally will clash with the Barry Sheene Festival of Speed at Sydney Motor Sport Park.
And since I have agreed to let a certain famous french 500GP star parade my TZ750 at the event, I'll have to give the rally a miss - b*gger.  :shout:

with the rally moved to the 19th - we can make it. Have phoned and booked a room for 2 as my better half has agreed to tag along. I think it was the mention of possible wine tours with the ladies that sealed the deal. Anyway 2 more confirmed and looking forward to it. Please keep me in the loop as to travel plans of the group as we will probably tag along in the herd.

Anyway staying Friday and Saturday night - probably leaving Wednesday before

That sounds like a plan Rob, leaving on the Wednesday would allow for a relatively easy 2 day run to arrive on the Friday. Will organise my leave around that sort of travel time.

Welcome to the High Country of beautiful Victoria with its amazing roads and fantastic scenery.

The venue for this amazing gathering of jolly old people is

http://snowlinehotel.com.au/ (http://snowlinehotel.com.au/) in Harrietville Vic.

The afternoon of the 18th is sure to be a hoot with interstate riders arriving with dry dusty throats.

So come one come all for a wicked weekend in the High Country.

So after consultation with the committee. It was decided that the honour this year must go to a southern rider.

Glad to see another Victorian committing to attend the Rally. One of the reasons that Victoria was nominated as the Rally venue was to encourage southerners to get a bit more involved in the Rally scene ; to show you what you've been missing out on by not attending the Rallies. I'm sure that you'll have a great experience Jeff (and Mrs Jeff)
Looking forward to catching up with you.

This is going to be too good to miss... I'm booked in!

I won't know anyone when I get there but I expect that will change pretty quick.

Would there be a problem if a mate on his old Honda 750/4 comes along?

Cheers

Mate, that`s great news.....I`ll finally get ta buy you that beer!

I was thinking that if there are a few coming from the southern end of vic we could possibly meet and ride as a group unless someone has already arranged something I missed...

:hi: Welcome Stammers....I like your thinking.

Not sure where the Southern end of Victoria is, though I`m pretty sure the Tasmanian crew will come through there.

Can I suggest your intro (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?board=17.0 (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?board=17.0)) include a pin here http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=10618.0 (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=10618.0) and maybe you`re fav coffee shop.

Apparently there is a Caravan park across the road from the motel, but i cannot confirm or deny this, one or two of the other owners said the were going to camp there. If flying solo you may also be able to bunk in with some else.

Hi Dave, Looks like we have a room for you . (Do you mind sharing?) ...The place is booked out to us.
Megan is back tomorrow and there are two rooms without a name on them.
I`ll talk with her by lunchtime, so give her a ring in the Arvo. (and keep an eye out for a pm from me.)
Also have a comfy plan B for more beds nearby as well as the campgrounds and Caravan Park nearby.
Mate I luv meeting new faces at the FJ National Rally, your first beer is on me.   :drinks:

For memory I think the place across the road  is called CASBAK. Also HOYS had one next door to it call BONACORD but I'm not certain if it's available to hire out rooms.  Also there is a caravan park near by a few minutes down the road towards BRIGHT called FREEBURGH CARAVAN PARK.

No worries mate, just about finalised a cosey bed for you and more (a lot more me thinks) just next door to the Snowline.

Meanwhile, it`d be good to get an idea of numbers for a wine tour. Maybe on the Friday or mainly for the ladies on the Saturday which will include their fav sport of trinket shopping, specialised coffee haunts and of course a winery or three. We have access to a 12 seater bus via the pub and have larger coach available if needed.
Some may prefer to PM me on their wishes, but here`s a little taste of our sleepy abode.....

March is approaching fast, so its time to stir this thread up a bit, mainly for the SE Qlders travelling down. I've organised to set out Wednesday morning 16th, head to Warwick and travel inland, either via Goondiwindi or Glenn Innes, the enclosed map says Goondiwindi is the shortest quickest way. This will give an easy 3 days to get to Harrietville, and I plan to do the same on the way back. Its 1510kms each way, so around 500kms per day is easy, gives me time to take photos etc. At this stage Shane (my 'bro and Voyager are coming), Dayta as well?, not sure. But I think Shane will be plotting some free camping spots on the route if possible, Lord knows I'll spend enough money on the Fri-Sat in Harrietville  :drinks:

Anyway I've enclosed my proposed route https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zEdHQjuHN5vs.kaMHXN9-3RJM&usp=sharing (https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zEdHQjuHN5vs.kaMHXN9-3RJM&usp=sharing)  and if anyone has suggestions etc or would like to join us, just let me know. :good2:    March is coming .....

After you've gone to the " share / embed " box, you can choose to generate a short link.
This is a much better choice IMO to give others a look at what you've planned.

Also, though its a bit longer you might want to not go quite so far W as Forbes & Coonabarabran etc and get twistier roads with more shade cover.

Ray, Arnie..... I would consider going to Coonabarabran just for the fun of riding some of the roads through the Warrumbungle ranges......but agree with you Arnie..... for 3 hours of boredom, you can't beat the run from Goondiwindi to Narrabri.
At this stage, I am pretty sure Peta and I will be trailering down, leaving either 15th or 16th and not planning on getting back home until Easter weekend.

Here is a little variation from Albury going down the Kiewa Highway to Germantown. Check out going down the range after Tawonga.  :gamer:
https://goo.gl/maps/ZYrvmA1sNN82

Also going down the New England Highway to Tamworth then across to Coonabarabran.

Just a thought.   :yahoo:

And, another variation on your original route Ray.  https://goo.gl/maps/bFU77QNzZLx
This is a bit more than 100 kms longer, but will save the center of your tires some wear :-)
It avoids the 2 horrors of N/S travel, Sydney and the Hume (M31), while still being fairly direct.

While the Warrenbungles are interesting, the ride to and from is not.
Note: the "scenic drive" there was all horrendous washboard the last time I was there.

Hi Ray. Personally i would prefer the Glen Innes option. Saves me riding a few hours north (north west really) just to turn left than head south. Will be putting my leave forms in as soon as i know who my manage will be, but shouldn't be an issue.

Yep easy. We will pick up my 'bro in Warwick and then head South to collect you in Glenn Innes Mark. Previous map link I have done has been modified to take that in plus also included Shanes suggestion from Albury. I had a look at your suggestion Arnie, only think is it adds another 2.5 hours on to the trip.

Well, those are googlemap hours.  More like 2hrs or less biker time :-)
And, they're spread out over 3 days.

If the weather is kind, it would be no problem.  If its 35+ or raining, it might be.
In the end, its your decision.  Ride safe.

Ahhh ok, I've looked more closely at the map Arnie, yep it could be a goer. Certainly a lot more squiggly lines , which would be a good thing. I'll throw it out there for the ride party and see what we come up with. Actual distance more is only around 80kms.

G'day Jools, Alf and I are leaving Thursday morning, heading to Corryony for an over-night stay then heading to Harrretville via the Mitta Mitta Rd. You and Troy are more than welcome to stay over here Wednesday night. That invitation is open to anyone else heading to the Rally needing a bed for Wednesday night. I think Troy's arm will be fine for the Rally but he's more qualified to answer that question. Keep in touch and we'll work out the finer details nearer to March.

Cheers Pete,

I'll wait to hear from Troy then..............

Late yesterday arvo I set about pulling the head off (ouch!) to get it "serviced" by Bruce Woodley (Powerflow) who reckoned he could do a bit with it.......... :good2:
I am off down to the Phillip Island Classic tomorrow and was planning to pass it over to him there but realistically when I looked at what was required in the time I have left - I had really left it too late so I've decided to leave it till after the rally.
It will be ok, I'll be tail end charlie laying down the smoke screen to keep the cops at bay
Just need to machine that swing arm now for the Wilbers shock and get it all back together.

Mate as long as its not raining I think the idea is to free camp it on the way down. I'm going to check out some single person hikers dome tents and small bedroll that will fit into one pannier easily. I know Glenn has a 3 man tent he is taking so we may be all ok anyway. If its raining, it will be cockroach cheap motels, lol!

Anyone sitting on the fence?

Type "Harrietville" into google images.

Then check out riding sites or google maps on Mt Hotham, Falls Creek, Dinner Plain, Anglers Rest (the Blue Duck Inn) Bright, Omeo, Murray Valley Highway, the Alpine Way, Great Alpine Rd, Mt Buffalo, Khancoban, Mitta Mitta Valley (Pete's favourite) Mt Beauty......

For those coming from the North, if you think your heart can stand it and you want a glimpse of what Heaven will be like for crusty old FJ riders, come down through the Snowys.

After a weekend down here you'll be hanging out for some straight roads and quite likely the centre of your tyres will be the only part left anyway.

I visited the rally venue a while back, as have Richard (Rover) and Pete (Oldktmdude) and it just has great rally location written all over it.

Harrietville is a 'blink and you miss it' village with lots of charm in a great location.

The local traders are well accustomed to motorbike gatherings and love them, even the the bikies. The two groups they dislike are cyclists, (increasingly popular in this area) and BMW group rides. Not a problem however over the rally weekend, we have booked the joint out and more, the spill over spreading to neighbouring sites.

Harrietville is ours!

To any fringe dwellers out there, take the plunge, it will be a great weekend. If your bikes not going don't worry about it, drive up (or down). If you need to turn up on a non FJ, no worries. If you're reading this site your welcome (and maybe even your mate if he's not an arsehole)

Wives and partners are not only welcome but encouraged. Events have been arranged to guarantee they enjoy the weekend while the blokes are off doing blokey stuff, like riding and bullshitting. They probably get their fill of that at home anyway.

Word has it there will be a celebrity attendance but modesty forbids me from giving any clues.

Roll on March....only 51 more sleeps!

:good2: Great bit of Rally promotion there Noel. Couldn't agree with you more, it's easily the best place I've ridden at. (haven't been to Tassie yet)
It's probably time to start an attendee's list. This will help to get an idea of numbers that the Rally ride lunch venue will have to cater for.

I offer a spare bed and bike , no steak knives, fair dinkum.
Bed and bike already paid, so just your grub, grog, and fuel (perhaps oil, don't know yet, plus you have to get to Nowra).

Troy, you haven't told them the catch in your offer. The "lucky" recipient also gets to spend a night at Bermagui and the has to put up with us all the way to Harrretville via all the nastiest, twistiest roads we know.   :diablo:

Hey - that's a secret and only reserved for those slower than me :blum2:

Started the beast up yesterdaisy and took her around the block (before the storm hit). Sweet. New Wilbers shock is now showing up the front end  :shout:
Now I will have to work on that R6 front end again Pete. Noticed the original forks seals are weeping again........... :empathy3:

Will be sorting the cracked belly pan today, along with an oil change, new clutch plates and fit the bigger oil cooler. Maybe look at those front engine mounts while I'm at it.

Yeah, it's and easy 3 hour run from Troy's to my place. You would even have time for an oil top-up in that time allowance.
You'll find the pods will make working on the FJ's engine so much easier. Troy left for the US this morning, he'll be back home on the 18th.

Hey Arnie.....Hey Rich......good to see you fellas....miss you both ....very much.... :bye: ..... The bike was first modded for drag racing and managed high 9's with the giggle gas.....but I bought it last  year from the performance shop who bought the bike from a good friend of mine a few years back and the nitros has been removed.....and I have yet to go to Ottawa (a 10 hour round trip....but I will likely make it an over nighter) and pick Snowy up. She is in storage for the winter and these photos are of her waiting for me to take her home......so I will head out there to get her sometime in April. The bike is supposedly very street friendly but I won't know what adjustments (if any) I will make, until I can sing "just out for rip are ya bud....just out for a rip....")  :good2: .....I am dying to take them both out.....miss riding.
The wrist is 100% Arn.....and has been for a while....it was the left shoulder that took a year to finally get back to normal......that was a real head scratcher   :scratch_one-s_head:  but everything, including my golf swing is as good as ever.  :i_am_so_happy:
Has anyone named this Rally yet?
I will be around more now that the dust in my life has finally started to settle.

I have to inform everyone going to the Rally that I have F#cked up big time.

I was going to this rally on the basis that it didn't clash with the Barry Sheene Festival of Speed.......................well I realised yesterday that it does and I'm one unhappy MoFo. For some reason I still had it down as the previous weekend, what a numpty.
And since I have already paid up my entry fee for the race I can't afford to give it away (No refunds)

I think I need to go and lie down quiet somewhere and change my valve stem seals...........

At least I got everything done to the bike (well almost)

Apologies to everyone I'm letting down and the missing smoke screen.  :flag_of_truce:

Sorry to announce a drop out for the Rally.
My wife has decided that she doesn't want to go.  I could repeat her stated reasons, but why?  Result is the same.
Anyhow,
I have a self-contained cabin booked at the caravan park next door to the Snowline Hotel at Harrietville.
Is anyone looking for accomodation that would like to share the space and the cost?

*Note: I have been told I snore, bring earplugs.
Cost is $110/night for the cabin, so 1/2 that ($55/night) would be your share.
I would prefer a young, pretty, sexually adventurous, female.   (but I'll consider others  yes )
PM me if interested.

Hi All.

With 4 weeks to go till the rally, I was thinking what do our long distance riders pack in the way of camping gear? I have started a camping bag that I can just throw on the bike and go. Kit includes - 2 man dome tent, compact camp chair, compact sleeping bag (it remains to be seen how warm this is), foam bedroll/mattress, camp stretcher, drop sheep and hammer.

Is there anything I have missed or should leave out? Ta

Compact camp chair, foam bedroll/mattress, camp stretcher, hammer are all superflouous IMO.  Take an air mattress instead of the foam roll.  You may want a small stove if you're not planning to eat in restaurants or from takeaways.  You won't (I'd guess) be hanging about a camping spot during the day, you'll be riding.
You will want a camelback or other water vessel.  You also want a GOOD torch (flashlight).
Take a loaded credit card, you never know. :-)

One side of the tent gets tied to the bike wheels.  That not only eliminates the need for tent pegs, it also lets you know if someone tries to steal your bike.  The other side can be tied to a couple of rocks.  This will work fine for a self-supporting dome tent.   (Pup tents are even easier, you tie one end to the bars of the bike and the other to a tree, but you do need tent pegs or rocks :-/  )
I assume your "drop sheep" is supposed to read drop sheet, right?  Or are you planning a big BBQ?

Its only 2 days from Grafton to Harrietville.  You don't need to plan for a month away.

Arnie

Just want to be prepared. My first real big ride, and XRay was planning to travel on the cheap. Not a real fan of camping in the ground but happy to make allowances. And yes, I mean sheet.  I don't do  the NZ thing

Shane and Glenn are coming over tomorrow and we will probably sort out a bit of a plan for stopovers etc. The 2 nights accomodation in  Harrietvile aren't the cheapest so the 2 nights down and 2 nights back unless it's pouring rain, camping in a van park or similar should be ok on the wallet.

I just bought a nice compact 2 man hiking tent that fits into a pannier and will also get one of those wire frame camp stretchers from Anaconda $25.00. Should be fun, unless it's pouring rain and then I think we will be looking for cheap motels

Ray,

Unless you're taking a very circuitous route or planning on very short days riding, its only 2 riding days down with a single overnight in each direction.  And, I agree that the prices in Harrietville are not cheap.

See y'all there

That's exactly it Arnie. After the rush to Jindabyne last year, I wanted to take our time and look at the scenery etc, stop and take photos etc etc. planning on a leisurely 500kms per day, maybe more depending where we are, how we feel, arrive in Harrietville either Fri morn or afternoon. 1500km trip one way for us

Ta

Mark

Less is more Mark. I have travelled for years with out a chair I would just use my jacket to sit on. When stealth camping most of the time there is a picnic table nearby to use. I would ditch the stretcher as they a shit to sleep on but you may find them comfortable. I have used a tent or swag for most of my travels and lately added a light weight tarp to use as a shelter over my swag. I have also removed my mattress and now have a hiking self inflating mattress to save space. The rule I use most of the time is camp but if it looks like rain pub room. As Arnie has said the trip to the rally is a 2 nighter at most so if your not going to use the gear regular then it would be more cost affective to get a room. Most pubs are $40 to $60 a night and van parks can be as high as $30. See how the numbers stack up. Camping only works out cheap if you free camp. Stealth camping can be very rewarding and make a ride super cheap but the cost of gear over the length of stays is the best guide. Hope that helps you Mate.

My comments weren't really trying to be narky.
Most of my camping background has been either backpacking or bicycle camping.
In both of those you set out everything you think you want to take, and then eliminate 1/2 of it.....twice.
Both of those require you to minimize both space and weight of what you carry.
On a motorcycle, space is the biggest problem.
You're really not far away from civilization should you actually NEED something you didn't bring.

My wife and I went bicycle camping along the eastern shore of Lake Huron and camped in OPParks.
We'd roll in, register, and then start setting up our little pup tent while being amazed at the RV's who pulled in next to us.  The first thing they did was erect the TV antenna :-)
We kept looking at each other in disbelief.

I'm now older and much less fit, so most of my camping is in a cabin or motel room.

Well, after setting up my new little ultralight 2 man hiking tent, I've realised the camp stretcher is a tad to large to comfortably get in out of the tent. Grabbed the self inflating mattress down from the rack and it's great . A bonus is both the tent and rolled up mattress both fit neatly into the top box, leaving the side panniers for everything else .  That is all the camping gear I am taking.

You've still got lots of room in that top box.
Fill the extra space with 1/2 a slab of your favorites :-)
And you can take 3 or 4 of the products from the wineries near Harrietville back to your Mrs  :gamer:

I've read a variety of opinions & it's 20 odd years since I last had to choose one, so my preferences are likely very old hat.

I have used this one for years. I removed the bottom section. Holds on the tank with the magnets and want scratch as long as you keep it clean.

I bought a tank bag very similar to the one Richard lists, from Aldi when they had their bike accessories specials. So far top quality, 3 layer bag, think I paid around $70.00.

Troy, tank bags are a bit like oil and tyres, everyone has different opinion on what's best and most will recommend whatever they have.

As you know, I do a lot of trips and a tank bag is a very important part of my kit. It's like the centre console in the car. Somewhere you can instantly lay your hand on frequently needed items. Not stuff I won't need until I've finished for the day.

I have an expensive ($200), large, expandable tank bag with all the usual features. After using it for a while I ditched it in favour of a smaller one. IMO tank bags are not something to increase your luggage capacity but somewhere to stow readily retrievable items such as phone, glasses, camera, wallet (even fags, if you're one of those despicable smokers) etc. The large one was too wobbly to wrangle the waterproof zips while riding, and the stuff you need gets lost in the stuff you don't need if you use it for general luggage, the wallet gets lost among the socks and jocks and I don't generally need an underwear change through the day, however there was this one time when I went for the brakes and.............

I think I was the original user here of the Givi Tanklock system and many have since joined in. The ring permanently mounts around the filler cap and the bag simply snaps off the ring with a press of the lever. I have done probably 100,000 km's with this including dropping the bike a few times and knocking it off without damaging the integrity of the fastening system. It's one of those things I have positive thoughts about every time I use it, particularly when re fuelling.

I have two of these Givi bags, large and small, and while I prefer the small one, the purchase of a larger camera may force me back to the larger one when travelling. Either way, they both use the same fitting, I can swap them around as needed. The small one now lives on the bike permanently for general use, not just trips.

What prompted me to buy this particular bag originally was the no contact with the tank (paint) My tank has original paint in very good nick and the last thing I wanted to do was scratch it up with a tank bag.

Regardless of the paint though, I like the speed and interchangeability of the fastening system, it takes me less than 1 sec to remove it and less to refit it.

I no longer need a map pocket on the top of the tank bag. I used to carry a paper map of the general area I was riding through but can't recall the last time I referred to one and unless I'm going somewhere without coverage which is rare, I have substituted an ipad for the paper map.

Google maps planning, good GPS programming and ipad back up (large format map viewing) have virtually eliminated the need for paper maps, and it's so much better.

Many here refer to the fun of poring over a paper map at a coffee stop on the road being a lot of fun. Nostalgia aside, the fun is finding the best route and like it or not, the net beats maps hands down at this task. I can even switch to satellite, zoom in and check out the road surface, sealed, unsealed, one or two vehicle width etc. No contest! And, I'm an old fart!

Luddites need not respond. Like the rest of you, I used paper maps all my life but I embraced modern technology and moved with the times in this area, it makes riding way more fun. I have ridden more new roads and discovered more new places in the last 10 years than I found in the previous 40 thanks to the internet. Many of these places were simply un findable on paper maps and ultimately, it's all about the riding. I stopped seeing the fun in trying to read a rain soaked map in front of the headlight in a gale in the middle of nowhere a long time ago.

I'd rather be riding than trying to figure out where the fuck I am, where the fuck I want to go, or how the fuck I get there.

Troy, you can buy GPS's for pocket change these days, don't bother with the bike specific unit, just get a car one, they will tolerate a surprising amount of rain or invest $10 in a weather proof clear sleeve for it, I have one for the phone to use in my jacket pocket.

As you can see, there is no contact with the tank.

Look up Givi Tanklock bags, they have probably expanded the range by now.

Troy, the bottom line is, it depends what you intend using it for. Different folks have different ideas of their function.

Then there's the option of garbage bags ocker strapped to the tank.........

Heading off for 6000km trip in '73. Oh how clothing and luggage has changed. I made that sissy bar just for the trip. The reason for space behind me was for a pillion I was picking up on the way and taking as far as Brisbane, with his luggage as well!

Off the shelf bike luggage was virtually non existent then.

My mother had dozens of these photos of me leaving on trips and only told me late in her life that standing there at 4.00am in -2c temps in her purple fluffy slippers and dressing gown that she believed the odds were high that it might be the last time she saw me, sad really. As a young bloke I was not even remotely tuned into this.
Now, as the parent of kids with a love of adventurous activities I have some understanding of the hell I put my parents through, my poor mum!

Great info fellas.
Noel, I looked up the Givi info & there might be a problem with the fit of the tank lock bag to the 1100 as the tank cap is forward compared to the 1200, plus the fuel cap doesn't have the outer ring that the 1200 does, so fitting the permanent ring might be an issue.
Right now I'm not too stressed about minor scratches on the tank of the 1100 as it will require a fair bit of work later in the year.
For this exercise I'm probably going to look at a cheap, temporary solution, so it might be one of the magnetic jobbies.
As I've a room booked, (and hopefully a room on the way from Pete's), I might just go with the old gear sack rack & what ever cheap tank bag I can find.

Another question. As I'm not crossing Oz, or riding much alone, what basic tools/spares on top of the basic spanners, screw drivers, spark plug socket, oil, chain lube, cable ties, and bailing wire should I plan to take?

I could go super basic and take some changes of clothes and my credit card  :mocking:.

Noel. You use a clear plastic film on your tank don't you?  If not I am sorry,  but do you know where it is available from and how hard it is to apply.  It might be good for us 1100 owners who use tank bags and are afraid of scratches.

Yes Mark, I have used it on my tank for years on trips or big day rides.

This is the tank after peeling it off.'

I bought a kit from "Tank Slapper" pre cut for the FJ but if it ever needs replacing I would just buy a square metre of it and cut it out myself.

It is most commonly called static cling film, it is cheap, readily available and commonly used in all sorts of industries.
It has no adhesive and can be applied and removed repeatedly with just a mist of water onto the area you want to apply it to first, smooth it out, job done. I have cycled my many times over many years and it's still great.

Showing film applied to tank. The spots are air bubbles I no longer worry about pressing out.

It is thin enough to conform to these curves but thick enough to maintain its shape. In Winter I soak it in hot water for a couple of seconds to soften it up a little, makes fitting it to shapes easier.

A quick look on eBay shows it is widely available and cheap. You could also try a local sign making shop for an off cut.
It is a generic product. probably from someone like 3M.

You can imagine what my paint would have looked like after thousands of kilometres of this with no protection. My pants legs were also solid with gritty clay

When you get home just peel it off, stick it on the window (otherwise you'll never find it again) till next time.

I also have a piece for the top of the tank I don't use and one for the top of tail I now wished I had.

You idea of using for temporary protection under the tank bag is excellent.

GPS, iPhones, and Google maps have yet to replace paper maps in one significant way. You can't lay one out in the ground while you work on your bike on the side of the road to catch that nut you WILL drop multiple times and curse yourself for dropping over and over. Not that I would know anything about that.

Rally Homework. Got some good news and some even better news.

1. We`ve got three two spare beds at the pub in a family room. Purposely held back for those who were`nt in a position to book due to possible work commitments etc. PM me if you can now pull the trigger!
2. There`s a happy hour on friday night and dinner is available spontaneously on the night as you mingle with the locals.
3. We`ve not only got our own area for the infamous chook raffles etc on saturday night but looks like we scored some live entertainment for background music.... where some have been known ta show off their moves!
4. Pub will put on a Saturday hot brekky for $20 prior to our 8.30am traditional photoshoot line up......but we must have a commitment minimum of 20 persons....so ring the pub now 03 57592524 and confirm individually. (a lower number will transfer the bookings to Bella`s next door, but at the pub where the ride prep & photoshoot is happening is definately best...so please ring your brekky attendence asap)
5.I need some numbers for the wine tour, so perhaps pm me re your choice of friday or saturday as a poll. Could be a lot cheaper to organise a maxi taxi into bright for boutique beers and shopping for the ladies as pub bus is $100 an hour.
Going to the Aussie FJ national Rally feels like these guys after being enclosed with work and commitment, The sensation of such healthy relief is not to be missed! https://www.facebook.com/ultracobra9/videos/975999859124502/?fallback=1 (https://www.facebook.com/ultracobra9/videos/975999859124502/?fallback=1)

G'day Tony, give me a call when you have talked to Troy and have got your plan together. If you could get down here at around 5pm, that leaves a bit of daylight to drive you guys around town for a bit of a sight seeing tour. Also leaves plenty of time to shed the FJ's and we might even have time left for a beer.
There's a BP servo on the way into Bermi so fuel up there so we can get a clean break in the morning. We've got a BBQ dinner organised so don't fill up on junk food on your way down. Did I mention that we may even have time for a beer or two. :drinks:
Regards, Pete.

              SATURDAY RIDE ROUTES

You'll have a choice of 2 group ride routes on Saturday.
Both routes will travel in an Anti-Clockwise direction starting and ending at Harrietville
Both routes will have us all together for the obligatory group picture at Hotham Heights
and for lunch at the Blue Duck Inn at Anglers Rest (shown as 2855 Omeo Hwy) on maps

Those wanting a Shorter ride will turn off at Bogong High Plains Road (shown as Big Red)
and travel through both Falls Creek and Mt. Beauty ski resort areas.  You'll rejoin the B500
Great Alpine Rd at Germantown returning to Harrietville.   235km and 4hr.35min Google time

            https://goo.gl/maps/aaGz663XBcn

The Longer Ride will not turn off at Big Red, but continue North through Mitta Mitta and up to
Tangambalanga before turning back South through Dederang, Kancoona, and re-joining the
B500 Great Alpine Road at Ovens and returning to Harrietville.   370kms  5hrs 48min Google time

            https://goo.gl/maps/WZ6wAmruoHP2

From my investigations, fuel should be available at Harrietville, Omeo, Mitta Mitta, Tallangatta (near Tangambalanga), Falls Creek, Mt. Beauty, and Bright.  I would expect that only those doing the long ride
will need to fuel during the ride, and Omeo is suggested.

Both rides have very few straight sections.  Zoom in on the route and see how squiggly the line gets :-)

See Youse all next Friday

Arnie (acting map detailer for Pete)

On reflection, this ride route plan is not only the best I`ve seen, but truly the best ever imajinable, practical and jaw dropping, scenically!!

Yeah I`ve been known to exaggerate some statements over the years, but you just can`t get anything better than this Rally agenda.

In the background, when it comes to planning, I (unfortunately sometimes) go down a lot of "what if`s" in my head. They involve weather, pics, points of interest, timing, shelter, social intercourse, communications, retrieval, fun, frolics & opportunities!

Ironically, too much organising can be adverse to the fantastic spirit that this gettogether always seems to engender. (So it`s mostly done on the quiet between whoever wants input). It`s got me beat why such a diverse group of characters that are mainly strangers up front, can have so much enjoyment every year, no matter they`re personalities and all so civilly with both genders raving!......This year`s ride definitely has it all!...and with all bases covered. Repeat...This is the best Saturday ride plan ever! The actual ride time (in tha saddle) before lunch, is only an hour & a quarter to make the most of the oohs & ahhhhs,....and and  incredible photo opportunities without too much Rush. After lunch can be any combination of sightseeing and fantastic rides. The setting sun is in the right position for the curve addicts as well as the layback.......This social intercourse is not to be missed!.......Big Congrats Pete!

Without giving too much away.... I know there are more trophies this year as well as the legendary Chook Raffle!    :yahoo:

(Coming by car....no prob, Cancelling that wedding, or an ocean Cruise, having trouble getting permission still?...no prob, just give me a call, esp if you need a bed or a set of ear muffs or both!)

I think Noel put it best and worth repeating.....

:drinks:

The maps for Saturday look great and a job well done Pete, should be great and many pics to be had. With good weather it will be a great weekend.

Hi everyone. Just a quick word to say We ( my wife and I) pulled the pin on coming up. Can't trust the bike at this stage and it's in bits, yet again. No time to sort it out at the moment. Getting really pissed off with it. To busy with work commitments to be bothered sorting it out. Ran out of time and don't trust it to do the distance or ride. As for driving up, trailering it there, waste of time  if it's not trustworthy or sorted. I cancelled my room at the snowline so if anyone needs a room give them a call.

I passed through Harrietville yesterday, twice, after an easy 600 km day in magnificent weather.
Clears skies and warm temps made for a great days riding.
I finished up with a lap of Mt Hotham before dinner in Bright just for fun, it doesn't get any better.

I can't remember the last time it rained down here, last year maybe? yep, Autumn in Victoria's High Country is the best riding in the world.

Well, it's 6.00 am Friday and the noise of torrential rain woke me up. 25mm (1") forecast for today!

The TV weather shows rain and storms literally in every state and capital in the country, even Perth and Darwin.
It appears if you are riding a bike anywhere in Australia today you are going to get a wet arse.

I spent last night only 20kms from the rally venue. I'm going to drop my luggage there then do a lap of tomorrow's ride.

See you all tonight.

On a brighter note, the forecast for Sat/Sun is great (and the roads will be washed clean)

Noel

Hooley Dooley, it's pissing down here in Bairnsdale.
The rain started in East Gippsland at around 0615 Hrs this morning and hasn't stopped.
I got a little bit wet on my way in to the Bakery this morning after only 30min.
There is one consolation of course, the roads will be pristine on my way to Harrietville this afternoon.
Be careful going over the top today Noel, it's 5deg at Hotham Heights at the moment.
See you at the Pub. :drinks:

Be Good
Stay dry (if you can)

G'day all you intepid travellers. Was hoping the weather would hold for y'all. Nice sunny day where I am but can't take advantage of it to go for a ride as I had a small surgical procedure to my head done on Thursday and can't put my helmet on.
Have a great time.
Anyone heading back north after the rally are welcome to drop by. Have a spare bed if needed.

Greetings all, :hi:
We missed you Dougie. :unknown:
I arrived home early afternoon yesterday.
I followed the rain all the way home. I stayed dry  but the roads were quite wet.

I had a great time at the rally as usual. :good2:
I was happy to shake hands with all my old friends and all my new friends as well.

Great friends, great roads, fantastic scenery and a great bike.
I hope everyone gets home safely.

Be Good.

Got back home Sunday late arvo after a 3rd day of great rides,
good food, (overpriced) beer, and great conversations.
Gareth and I chose to take the Buffalo Lake to Whitfield road which we knew
was unpaved, but had been told was "good dirt".
I'm guessing that the person who gave it that review as driving a log truck.
It was loose, coarse, large gravel for the ~50km length of it, with tight turns, steep climbs and decents, and to finish the torture it was corrugated most of the way as well.
We both stayed upright as we tiptoed through.  Gareth lost his headlight protector, but found it again (amazing).
Otherwise it was a great ride, with lovely scenery, and little traffic.
Only rain we saw was on Friday, and that wasn't too bad.
Chalk this up as another great FJ Rally.
Shame about those who couldn't make it this year.

he he, I thought I'd be clever and cut some time off on some back roads from Gunning to Tarago. I even checked google maps to see if they were paved. It looked like they were.

They were ok for dirt, in-fact not too bad. Not as bad as yours sounded Arnie, & I only had about 30k's worth. A quick beer at Nerriga got me over it, then a fast fang up MR92 to home (that's fast for me, not for others).

Most important question......where's the next rally?

Toss up between Bathurst and Mount Tamborine, but subject to change without notice.

Sweeeeeet for me either way.

btw, you were right about the scarf Mark, my gopro did get some awesome shots of it.

Noel, you were also right. No-go for the chest mount gopro on an FJ  :dash1:. I might try the helmet mount when out of NSW.

Johno, you were right about it as well. I thought I was leaning over HEAPS, but the video makes it look like I'm riding a tractor and my dog is missing. Also the balaclava did the same job as the scarf. Ah well, Dr Who is off the bike (sorry Pete, no more fake blondes) :flag_of_truce:.

Mind you, my chicken strip reduction was an all time personal best. Nothing to truly brag about, but quick for me.

Now roll on the weekend, Effie needs to move!

just wanted to say I had a great time at the rally, and am very happy I went.  A big thanks to Arnie for the great rides to and from Harrietville, and the tightest curves in Victoria will not easily be forgotten.  A great bunch of people, and I hope to get to the next rally, where ever it might be.

cheers, Gareth

G'day everyone, arrived home yesterday arvo after taking three days to do the six hour return trip from Harrretville. Thanks Len, Jonno and Alf for some fantastic company and great riding. We saw some awesome roads and scenery. Hope everyone had as good a return journey as I did.
What a great weekend. Thanks to all for making it a truly memorable weekend. Great to catch up with those that I had met before and great to meet some new friends. A big thanks to Richard and Darran for hosting the Saturday night presentations. Great job! I wonder if the Queenslanders have thawed out yet, some of them didn't look so comfortable with the 1*C temp at the top of Mt Hotham.
It's going to be a hard act to follow but I'm already looking forward to next years Rally.
  Thanks again, regards, Pete. :good2:

Hello Fellow Riders. Just a little ride report.  :hi:
Over the last week I traveled 3012km to attend The FJ Owners Rally in Harrietville VIC. I left from Grafton on Wednesday morning to meet up with some riders from QLD at Glen Innes. We then traveled to Tamworth and ended up staying at a little place called Currabubula. Top Pub, highly recommend it. From there we headed south through some beautiful country to stay the night at Coolac Bee Hive Hotel. It rained on us from there for the next 350km to Harrietville. We Called in to Holbrook to check out the Submarine in the park (pictured - HMAS OTWAY) for a reprieve from the wind and rain.

Now I must say The Harrietville/ Mount Hotham area has some of the most beautiful scenery and best riding roads I have ever seen. We had 21 bikes in attendance (3 ringins, but we won't mention them) and we did a lap from Harrietville to Mount Hotham (It was 1*C up there) then on to Omeo, on the the Blue Duck Inn for lunch, up to Falls Creek, then lastly to Mount Beauty before heading back to Harrietville.

My Tip home was a little bit faster with the first stop at Blayney (near Bathurst) I had wanted to a Lap of Mount Panarama, but time constraints ruled that out. I made sure I did do the Bylong Valley through to Muswelbrook. More beautiful stuff, before I headed east for the Pacific Snoozway for the straight shot home. The only issue for the Bike was that it developed an oil leak from the Timing cover (seal on the crank shaft gone i would say) and i got an oily left boot. Other than that the 32 year old bike ran like a bought one. One days rest now and back to work tomorrow.

This has been one of the best riding weeks I have ever had. A big thank you to the organisers, and the the FJ riders who make it special

Mark

+ me as well Mark.
Great to meet you and the other members.
It has been a veeeeeeeeery long time between long rides for me & frankly I was a little nervous before heading out last week. Nervous because I've not ridden much for a long time, also because I'm not particularly quick, and mainly because I didn't think I'd be able to stay in the saddle for the hours and k's we did each day. Could I pack all the 'essential' gear? Finally would I like the other FJ riders?
WELL, how wrong  :dash1: can I be.
I suppose it's 'just like riding a bike' - you never forget.
Each day I got off my effie I was feeling great, no, euphoric (that was before beer mind you)  :sarcastic:, this was about 5-6hrs saddle time a day. Strewth effies are comfy bikes.
Quick or cruise, just doesn't count with these fellas. After the thousands of corners over the 4 days I achieved a personal best with my chicken strip. I mean personal best, still not quick, but I'm happy with it.
Would I like FJ riders? Well, in the 80's I did some MRA rallies, and various other club rallies. I didn't fit in then, so I stopped going to group stuff, still rode solo though. Still not sure if I fit in  :sarcastic:, but I'm happy to hook-up with FJ riders ANYTIME!!!!

So to you lurkers who've missed this year's rally, here are some of your likely excuses:
I'm too busy at work...
I can't take time off...
I've got family commitments...
My balls are sore...(well done Tony, you axed that excuse!)
I'm worried my bike won't make it...
I won't fit in...
I don't know if I'll like the people there...
I'm not a group person...
I'll be embarrassed about not knowing as much as the others...
My bike looks like shit (but runs)...
My bike uses too much oil...
It's a long way...
My partner doesn't want to go...
I'm too old...
I'm too young...(pillions are welcome!)
I don't ride...(as above)
My cat has sprained its' penis...
What if it rains...
I don't have an FJ anymore...
My FJ isn't ready...
I can't afford it...
I have aspergers (you c*#t!)...
I don't like the heat...
I don't like the cold...
I'm depressed & don't want to be a wet blanket...
I don't like bright light...(better stay in your coffin then)
I have to vote...(you'd seriously support a political c*#t than come to a rally? REALLY???)

If any of the above apply or even sound vaguely familiar, BOLLOCKS!!!!  :ireful: :ireful: :ireful:
Most of those thoughts crossed my mind, some even seriously (kids, wife, work, bike..).
But I took the plunge and went.

Here are some of the answers to those problems:
I can't take time off, BOLLOCKS, you can plan.
My partner can't/won't come, you can plan. (sure some things you can't plan for).
I've got young kids, you can plan.
I don't have an FJ/its not running etc. We don't care (bewdy Stu with Yamutha)
My cat has sprained its' penis. Good!
I have aspergers, good!
Worried my bike won't make it. DON'T, these are FJ's we're talking about, they'll make another few thousand k's, AND, will run better for it, TRUE!!!!!! Yes I did need a couple of litres of oil, BUT I SURVIVED that incredible hardship of topping up my oil. (still buggered if I know were it's going though)
Can't afford it, SAVE, you have plenty of time till next year.

Now, a specific one for those reluctant to leave the nest. Your wife, kids, partner, cat, dog, familiar, employer, etc. will be happy that you've returned. FURTHER, they'll be even happier that you're happy, actually went and did something significant, and ... adventurous...

I didn't plan on writing such a spray, but, to summarise the above. Start saving now. Fix the bike or simply beg, borrow, rent, another bike, and just go to the rally. IT IS WORTH IT!!! We are from all walks of life, so no-one is an 'outsider' that is for other groups..REALLY!

G'day all - the 2016 holder of the "Ashes" reporting in....... Peta and I got back home Yesterday afternoon after an epic rally weekend..
Great to meet friends new and old on our March get-together.

I'm so glad we decided to trailer the bike down this year as it gave Peta a chance to meet all you folks and take part in the ride. I feel sure her knee will be up to a full ride to wherever the 2017 rally is held as it has recovered from Saturdays excursion quite nicely after a couple of days of Panadol and Advil to calm it down.

We left Harrietville Sunday morning and headed up the Keiwa Valley, Across to Corryong, Jindabyne, Dalgety, Bega and into Tathra for the night.
From there we headed up the coast, calling into as many side road excursions as time allowed until we reached Port Stephens Monday night. Another meander up the coast via the Myall Lakes (Seal Rocks, Forster-Tuncurry) and on up to Wooli for the Tuesday night stop. Late start Wednesday morning to get home Wednesday afternoon.

Rover, Darran - great job Saturday evening guys - I can't remember who took out all the raffle prizes but the comms unit will sure come in handy for me and Peta.

Pete - exceptional Saturday ride - you and the NSW south coast crew take a bow.

Roll on March 2017.

Harvy

Just arrived home after my extended return through Victoria and NSW. Travelling without a map or GPS makes life interesting and I covered some roads that I never knew existed. Camped in some awesome spots and did the old Glen Innes to Grafton Rd over 100 km of dirt and beautiful scenery. The Yamutha performed well apart from one puncture . Thanks to the organisers and thanks to everyone that contributed to the Cervical Cancer raffle. Over $80 was raised in about 20 minutes. Great weekend, great roads and great company

Yep, just mentioned to Arnie I think we can call the 'chest mount' a crotch mount.
The 'cruise' was me trying to go quick, but compared to later in the day, it really was a 'fast' cruise.
I forgot to mention, the photos I posted above are not mine, they are Johno's. Thanks Johno, amazing what you can do without a phone these days! My fav's are Diesel Dave & Alf on Johnos' bike, and Pete for some reason going slow on an awesome corner (what happened there Pete?).
Richard, nice pics too mate. Lenny's 1100 over the lake looks really good.

As I am looking at cams at the moment can you tell me which one you have please.

Shane, I think I just got lucky with the vibration. It was mounted to the crash bars on the Strom. Its actually a cheapy $80  Navigator sports cam. The main difference between that and go pros etc is the quality of the fittings as I found out

That was a great video Stu, did you use the same camera for all the video, if so, for a cheap camera it shoots excellent quality footage, even in low light. It's hard finding the ideal spot for a camera on a bike without getting some sort of vibration, but the spot you had it mounted wasn't too bad.

What was the first song, sounded like Matt Taylor and Chain.??

Monkey,

I found it much more difficult to drive on the "correct" side than ride on the "correct" side.  Maybe because bike riding encourages full attention, driving slightly less.  Don't worry, you'll be fine and whoever is riding with you will help remind you too.
What was really hard was learning to shift a manual transmission car or truck with my left hand :-/

Well,  the stars finally aligned and I attended my first FJ Rally last weekend, and what a weekend it was.
The thought of spending as few days and nights with a bunch of people, most of whom I had never met, seemed a little odd but my concerns were entirely unfounded and to a man (and woman) they were a most excellent and interesting bunch.

What are the chances of that with a random bunch of people from all walks of life thrown together for a weekend.

Everybody was doing something interesting with their lives, no couch potatoes here.

The thing I was not looking forward to was the group ride on Saturday. I have never been on a group ride and have avoided them like the plague all my life. My fears were unfounded as everyone chose their own pace either individually or as groups and as the stops were fairly frequent, the arrival times were not too staggered. It worked well.

Richard and Darren did a fantastic job with the raffle, keeping us entertained and laughing.

A circus with all the acts is a great show, but even better with its Ringmaster.

We missed you Doug.

I  arrived on the Thursday and did a partial lap of the rally ride late in the day in magnificent weather with a still clean bike.

The following day, I did a complete lap in terrible weather...

....then did the lap again with the group on the Saturday. If I'd had time, I would have done it again on Sunday.

The summit of Falls Creek on my solo ride Friday was some of the bleakest and most hostile weather I have ridden in. I was just below the cloud base and the rain was blowing across the tundra horizontally in waves,  it was difficult keeping the bike between the edge of the road and the centre line.
When parked, the bike was teetering uncomfortably on the side stand and my helmet, which I had placed of the ground, took off, rolling across the car park.

I was really enjoying this.

I took advantage of the foul weather and late hour, assuming the mountain would be free of hikers and rangers and headed down a walking trail......

.....to a restored pioneers hut...

....complete with that great Aussie convenience, the long drop dunny. While not original, it was sympathetic to the hut's style and did not look out of place.

Any Redback under that toilet seat would need a full set of thermals.

The thought of a non start at that hour of the day, in that location, in that weather (already zero degrees and another 6 or 7 wind chill) and no phone coverage made me a tad nervous. I was also under dressed for the conditions as it was mild mid 20's off the mountain. At least I would have had a hut to stay in.

The never spoken of but inevitable "shine off" between Xray and myself was a fizzer because of the rain, the winner ended up being the guy with the least dirty bike which Ray won hands down due some quick detailing on arrival (the competition must have had him worried ).

Next time Ray....... next time.

A quick round of attendees suggests everyone had a great time. I have nothing to compare to but I had a ripper time. The riding and the company were outstanding.

Someone asked me how I managed to find such magnificent roads - in this part of the world you can't avoid them.

Australia has a similar land mass to the US but with only 7% of its population.
This turn out, on a per capita basis, is the equivalent of 260
FJ's turning up at an American rally.

Sterling effort chaps.

Folks travelled great distances to get there. Len came with his bike by ship, braving one the roughest regular water crossings in the world from Australia's only island state, Tasmania, to be there. Good one Len.
Darren and Danielle flew in from QL and hired and FJR in Melbourne. Harvy and Peta turned up American style (but were excused due to a knee injury).

Many rode half the length of the country in terrible conditions to get there and not once did I hear anyone say "never again"

A great effort from a great number of people to support the Rally, well done.

What's not to love about a weekend in God's own country, with a bunch of FJ's and a terrific group of people.

Only 360 sleeps until the next one. Whoopee!

A few random shots from the weekend.

Great report and photos Noel, glad you enjoyed your first rally and it was good to meet you. You are right, they are a fantastic group of people to ride with. No pecking order and leave your egos at the door. Hope to see you next year

Noel, I can only echo what Stu said. Great to have had you with us. You'd have to go a long way to find a better bunch of people. Put a big RESERVED mark on next years calendar during the second weekend of March. As for the last two photo's, I can't remember what I was explaining to Len but I can assure you that it wasn't what you inferred. Thanks for the laughs.  :drinks: Hope to catch up with you before the next Rally.
  Regards, Pete.

The 2016 Australian FJ Owners Rally. Three words that come to mind are WOW,WOW,WOW!

Noel.. Your photos and captions had me wetting myself with laughter. Thanks mate!

A huge thank you to the organisers. It was a privilege to be in the company of so many like minded ladies and gentlemen. The first timers like me who had to face their fears and trepidation of whether we would fit in had nothing to worry about at all.

The ride was hours and hours of winding roads with spectacular scenic views.

A special thanks to Alf and Pete who ride around with me for two days after the rally showing me a few moves zig zagging between two states on our way to the NSW coast.

I'm glad I had Darran and Daniel to witness the social experiment I was subjected to on our ride to Harrietville  :wacko3:

The experience I had and the people I met will stay in my memory forever.

Cheers
Len

Len, glad to see you arrived home safe and sound. No more kangaroo incidents! Thanks for your company during and especially after the Rally. It was an absolute pleasure meeting and riding with you.(even though we had to slow down and wait for you frequently not!) Looking forward to catching up with you in July.
   Cheers mate, regards, Pete.   :drinks:

Nice photos and report Noel! Yes, I was cursing the rain and mud on the way down, my spotless bike was stained badly , that's why I was up at the crack of dawn cleaning and polishing :)

But, as I said to my Victorian colleague from work, "I'm moving to Victoria!"  . The roads and scenery are just unbelievable. Will have to do my own write up this weekend, ( I have been slack)

Great to meet you Len and glad you enjoyed the weekend - I hope the rest of your fortnight went as you'd hoped!. Hopefully my outlaws haven't had a lasting effect on you...

Pete and Richard, I can only echo everyone's congratulations on the weekend. Nicolle enjoyed herself again, and I tried my best to "catch up" when I got back from Melbourne (Nic had the fridge well stocked)...

Pete I think you summed it up perfectly "late" on Saturday night, "Once a year with this crowd isn't enough, but its perfect." - The more I think about that, the more sagelike it sounds.... Thanks again.

Take Care All.

Hi All.

Well it's now less than two weeks to the rally. Feeling excited. My room is booked and got a confirmation call from the pub yesterday. My bike is about as ready as will ever be. Can't wait to catch up with the FJ crew. See you all soon
