My Vance & Hines muffler got a bit of damage in the crash. Not that it was any great shakes to begin with.
It seems like I should be able to just cut it off and replace it with any can. Anything I should consider before doing that?

Just that it can flow enough volume to not "Choke down" the 1200.
I'd also pull the plugs after installing a different muff and check to see how the jetting is....
Get the correct inlet diameter on the can.
Can's 14" to 18" in length seem popular depending on your tolerance to noise.
You don't have to worry about mounting points on the can, if you get a sliding band clamp.
You can position the band clamp where ever you need it.
