***There is a disclaimer on the pricing. Their rates are going to increase slightly for the 2016 season. Possibly $5-$10 per night. The exact rate won't be available until January 1st.***
The good news, is that the week that was chosen for the Rally is considered their "Mid-Season", so the rates are slightly cheaper.
(http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab154/firehawk068/Rally%20photos/2016%20Colorado%20Rally/Riverside%20Inn%20and%20Cabins/Season%20Rates_zps4kgnqfby.jpg) (http://s859.photobucket.com/user/firehawk068/media/Rally%20photos/2016%20Colorado%20Rally/Riverside%20Inn%20and%20Cabins/Season%20Rates_zps4kgnqfby.jpg.html)
Reservation Procedure:
*From NOW until January 1st, when you call, you are making a "Tentative Reservation" (they normally do not start taking reservations for the season until January 1st)
*When you call to reserve whatever room or cabin you would like, tell them you are with the "FJ Owners Motorcycle Group"
(You might have to remind them that Alan Humes set it up. There are quite a few people who answer the phone, and they may not all know about it yet. I already have my cabin reservation in place)
*After January 1st, they will contact you to "Confirm" your reservation. This is when you will be notified of the exact nightly rate of your room or cabin.
*Reservations are secured with a credit card number, however they do not charge your card until you arrive for your stay. (if you do not show up, you will be charged also)
*If you are reserving a room or a cabin for (5) or more nights, they require a (Non refundable) 50% deposit, which they will collect after January 1st.
Those are the details, so start calling to make your reservation as soon as possible. Don't Miss Out!
(as of Friday, they didn't have any tentative reservations scheduled for that week)
Here's a little more information about their place that I would consider mandatory:
*Check-In time is 3:00pm
*Check-Out time is 11:00am
*There are fire-rings/fireplaces at the cabins, as well as a "Central" fire-pit (I made it clear to them, that in the evenings we like to gather around a centrally located camp-fire)
I am going to work on securing firewood for the Rally week. :good:
*There are charcoal grills and picnic tables at the cabins, as well as a centrally located BBQ grill.
*They have a huge outdoor Hot-Tub.
(http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab154/firehawk068/Rally%20photos/2016%20Colorado%20Rally/Riverside%20Inn%20and%20Cabins/22B5D499-7105-46AF-949E-547C85D241CD_zpsgideqxsp.jpg) (http://s859.photobucket.com/user/firehawk068/media/Rally%20photos/2016%20Colorado%20Rally/Riverside%20Inn%20and%20Cabins/22B5D499-7105-46AF-949E-547C85D241CD_zpsgideqxsp.jpg.html)
*They also sell Fuel on the premises, and have a convenience store, and a car-wash on site.
OK, now with all that out of the way, here's just a few of the highlighted roads that are in the area.(after all, we came to ride didn't we?) :good2:

Great job with all the planning Alan! This is going to be EPIC! How many more sleeps until June?!
Derek and Donna
Holy crap Alan, you've outdone yourself!! From all the recon...the planning...the details...just spectacular. I...of course...am IN!
This promises to be one for the books. Ouray...say it with me...EWW-RAY. Sweet WCR at Willits followed immediately by a week in the Colorado mountains. Freakin' awesome. :good2:
Nice job on the preparations. At this time, I would definitely be classified as tenative.
What is the weather potentially like for that elevation, at that time of year? I've only been to Colorado for skiing in the winter.

Wow, how do you top that!
I'm afraid that weekend doesn't work for me.
Seriously, that is beautiful country and I'll bet the roads are great too.
Noel
Great job Alan :yahoo: I just made reservations for the Imogene cabin 8th-12th. Colorado is awesome. Never been to Ouray. Can't wait.
Great job Alan, I will be there. :drinks:
I will be attending the WCR and the Colorado Rally.
Fred
So is the official rally 3 nights (checkout the 11th), or 4 (checkout the 12th)?
I would have no problem (actually prefer week days) with the 11th 3 night it's always better not to have the weekend people on the roads etc. In the way. But I reserved sat night just in case. Can cancel sat night a month out.

Ouray itself is at an elevation around 7,800 feet above sea level.
I did a bunch of research on this part of the state.
One of the things I looked at closely was Climate.
Ouray was actually not listed, but I looked at all the surrounding area, and took note of where the ride routes would be.

Durango and Placerville didn't show any precipitation data, but I am certain they are similar.
All of these locations show that June is their lowest precipitation month, so I took that into account also when choosing the dates. :good:
With daytime temps in the mid-70s to mid-80s, it should make for some comfortable riding in the early part of June. :good2:

Oh hell, if Henry and K-man are in, I'm down for a solid tentative! Going to have to remember the time change this go around. Any FJ owners left in Metro Phx want to ride with me, post or pm. Will have to figure out if I can make the Willits 'pre-rally' happen or not.

I love having plans made so far in advance, now I can spend the rest of my time getting all my ducks in a row!
Leon
OK, so Cap'nRon and Myself made a ride to Ouray a couple weeks ago to check this place out.
We found out a little more info, and I took a bunch of pictures.
*First thing, is that at the time we were there, the were (5) Camping Cabins left. If you want a Cabin, make sure you get your reservation in soon.
They have plenty of Motel rooms/Suites available still.
*Also, we found out that due to their computer system, by default the reservations are being entered at their "Peak" summer rate. Ron had them correct the ones that have been made so far, but when your reservation is confirmed, make sure you remind them that it is "Mid-Season" rates for Rally Week.
* They also offer bedding linens for $5/per person, per night, for those that are riding in from out of state and may be travelling light.
* They sell fuel on site, but it is a little on the pricey side. We found two other fuel stations about 10 miles north in Ridgway, that were about 60-cents cheaper per gallon.
* If you are not paying attention, this place is easy to miss, and you could end up riding right past.
When you arrive, look for the fuel-pumps and the "Conoco" sign. They also have a (non-covered) car-wash bay out front by the road.

* Another interesting bit of info. It is not advertised by them, however most (or possibly all) of the Cabins have running water in the form of a spigot attached to the post that the power box is mounted to, behind each one. I didn't look at all of them, but each one that I looked at had one.
* Each one of the cabins has a picnic table, and a small (fireplace?) either next to the cabin, or behind the cabin.
Here is the one behind Cabin #3

* There is a Grocery Store in town, in the form of "A G Duckett's Market". We happened to park directly in front of it when we went to dinner in town.
We didn't go in to see what they had available, but it appears they would have most items that one could want.

* They have a 24-hour Guest Laundry.

* They do have a "Central" community fire-pit, but it is not very large. I think we could pull some chairs around it though, and fit a bunch of us there.
The community gas grill is also next to the fire-pit, which is next to their hot-tubs. They got rid of their one large hot tub, and put in two smaller new ones.

The Guest Showers/Restrooms are on the back-side of the "Jeep Rental" office. (shown here just behind the Hot-tubs)
I believe there are (4) shower stalls, and (4) toilet stalls in each one. (at least in the Men's side there are)

This is Cabin #4
It happens to be right next to the "Community Fire/BBQ/Hot-tub area".
If anyone happens to choose Cabin #4, be prepared that it might be a little noisy into the later hours of the evening if you are the "Early-to-bed" type. :pardon:
(I only hope that someone from our group gets it, and it's not a quiet family hoping to have peaceful evenings)

* Another thing to note: They have Free WiFi, however like most campgrounds that offer it, the farther away from the main building you are, the worse the signal gets.
I couldn't get a very good signal from Cabin #8
* Also, Cap'nRon and I noticed that the evening staff was very courteous and accommodating, and rather "Friendly"
Here's a few shots from in town.
There are plenty of Pubs, Saloons, and Cafes, so if you are the "Eat in Town" type, there is much to choose from.

There's some other interesting things to do in town also:
There's a Mine Tour (with ties to my home-city in NY)
http://bachelorsyracusemine.com/ (http://bachelorsyracusemine.com/)
Box Canyon Falls Hike.

Anyway, that's all I can think of for details for now.
If I come across anything else, I'll post it up.
Putting this on my calendar, at least tentatively...
I hope to meet up with you, mate.

Hey Randy I'm going for sure. Unless something happens, like what kept me from going to Telico this year. Will be taking the trailer and my ATV. If it's not totalled. Maybe you could hitch a ride with me.

Dan, if you're bringing the ATV, make sure you order the Colorado OHV sticker well ahead of time. They are valid from April 1st.

I have heard of people being stopped an cited if you do not have your sticker.
Lots of awesome trails to ride here in CO, but you already know that.

I've learned to be careful making bold commitments when it comes to big motorcycle trips, so I've been hesitant to confirm that I'm in for the Colorado Rally. Having said that, I'm definitely trying to make it to this little soiree, so as of right now, I'm tentatively in. I don't know if I'll make Willits as well yet, as I also want to visit friends in Arizona; but hopefully within the next month or so, I can come up with a cunning plan. :scratch_one-s_head: :pardon:
Just wanted to give a friendly heads up.

Hoping you can make both rallies and all is well.

I checked with "Ouray Riverside Inn and Cabins" today, and it appears that there are (4) of the smaller Cabins still available, as well as plenty of their Hotel rooms.
June can't get here fast enough. I'm looking forward to this!
Dave Skipper has made his reservation :yahoo:, 8-12 June, four nights to prevent the non-refundable over five day half payment. I intend to arrive 5 June-6 June. Anyone need a bunk? Randy, notalib, will likely be part of my cabin.

Well, looks like the first big trip for me (of my life and summer) just got bigger. :yahoo:
I'll still get to go to the Motos in Moab and have a great time out there... but now my wife is flying to Denver so we can see the Lumineers on the 7th at Red Rocks, sooooo, I "have" to stay another week in Colorado :good2:. I'll be working remotely that week but it will at least have me in the right state! I should be able to make a few rides and stop down for Friday and Saturday. :good:

Sounds great!
We are filling this Rally up! :yahoo:
Keep in mind, it is about a 6-7 hour ride from Denver to Ouray, so plan accordingly.
Good point. I will keep that in mind. now back to maps and planning... it is only a 1,222 mile ride home from Telluride, so only about a day to ride :wacko2:
camper cabin reserved! See you guys in a few weeks!
This is shaping up to be another great Central Rally. :yahoo:
14 commits and a few still tentitive.
The WCR has a potato cannon (just for fun) and then to instantly start our bonfires we have Thermite, maybe the central rally can have one of these...
Click Here (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3519376/Definitely-don-t-try-home-YouTube-star-makes-homemade-thermite-cannon-launch-white-hot-grenades-targets.html)
Too much fun.. we would get shutdown just like the time me and steve were firing m-80's out of the potato cannon. :shok:
It was cool though. :wacko3:
Looks like I'm going to have to cancel out on the Colorado rally again. :dash2:
Looking like I'm going to be building my dream. Shop/house. If it goes through. It's going to consume not only all my spare cash. But also all of me time. This year.
So long story short. I've cancelled my reservation for the Imogene cabin. Did it this evening. So it's up for grabs.
Darn it Dan!
You'll be missed........
You'll just have to hold next year's Rally at your new place. Make sure you build in enough accommodations, a smoke-house, and a fully stocked wet-bar :good2:
2268sq ft inslab heated shop. 972sq ft living quarters.. On an acre. I will miss having gone to the rally... You can't get them back. You guys have a great time.
Sorry you can't make it. Good news on the new digs. Hope all goes well. Looking forward to next year.

My attendance in now doubtful too, since my FJ and I were hitching a ride with Dan. :cray:
Dan, no problem with your decision. I totally understand.
For now, I will keep my camper cabin reservation active at the resort, while I weigh other options. As I recall, I have up to 72 hours in advance of my first day, and cancel it without penalty.
Always thought that I could make an epic ride (with some unremarkable stretches of highways) of going to and from the Rally. However, to do so would require much more time than I can allocate, when considering another planned summer vacation in the Northwest.
If I can't make it, I am glad that I went the 2015 Black Hills Rally, where I met and rode with some of the members/enthusiasts.
Time will tell.
Bummer giantkiller! Was looking forward to meeting you out there! Congrats on the new homestead!
I might have room for another bike on the way home if I trailer out there or I can put my bike in another truck/trailer with someone if the concern was splitting gas. I have an outback that puts out 30hp more than the FJ... let's just say it would not be a quick drive either direction pulling a trailer.
I'll be heading out West May 25th and coming back on June 12th.
Dan,
Sorry to hear about you not making the Rally. :dash1: Congratulations on your new Home/Shop. :drinks: Like Alan mentioned......Give us the scoop on the local curvy roads....Possible Central Rally in Wisconsin for 2017.
I can make an offer for a ride and trailer event. Someone can ride to Kansas City on June 7th. I can meet you there, load the bike on my trailer and head west, bright and early on the 8th. Travel is by Land Yacht (Yukon XL) plenty of room. You can be returned to Kansas City in the late evening of the 12th.
If anyone is interested, PM me and we can work out the finer details.
Fred
Fred, you rock.
You are such a valuable member of our brotherhood.
What a guy!

There you go Marty. Fred you are awesome. If it works out. I'll have plenty of room. But riding isn't that great around hear. West side of the state is good. And there is a road on a reservation that is awesome. Has designated turn offs for slower traffic. Never seen a cop. I think they built it so people will come visit their casino.

I know I stuck my hand up a couple of months ago as a possible attendee of the Central Rally, but I'm not going to be able to make it. There are just too many life issues going on right now to commit to making it to Colorado. My only consolation is that the same week of the Central Rally, there will be some guys coming to Arkansas to ride the Ozarks that I can fall in with for a few days of twisty riding. I guess in the big scheme of things, that's not a terrible option.
Joe
I thought I'd update my situation. I'm currently planning on already being down in the Utah, Colorado, and Arizona area on a moto-camping trip with friends the weekend before the start of the Rally (June 3rd-7th). As of now, I'm considering breaking off from my friends on the 7th and heading to Ouray. I'll probably only be there for a day or two before continuing on back home, but at least I can catch up with some folks and meet others.
Unfortunately, my cunning plans have fallen through. Due to family obligations, I'm having to cancel my Grand Tour of UT, CO, and AZ this year, so I won't be able to make Ouray. Safe travels everyone.
It looks like the weather will be nice next week for the Rally! :yahoo:
