Title: "cluster" lights not working.
Post by: charleygofast on August 12, 2015, 10:41:49 PM
Speedo, tach, and fuel gauge lights stopped working all the other lights and switches are fine. I just replaced the throttle cable so I thought maybe I'd unplugged something so I pulled the fairing  checked all connectors and the bulbs and there isn't anything obvious...there was an incident last week where my starter button was sticking...one time I rode about 10 miles before I discovered it was still pushed in, I've since had it apart (when I replaced the throttle cable) and it's fine now. Any ideas?                                                                                                                                                                                                      Thanks!                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Charley

Check to see if one of the 15 amp fuses are blown.

Sounds like a grounding problem.

Or a specific wire is broken. They can get broken inside insulation. Way to check this is to own a multimeter and check the resistance, I think.

I have the same problem. Mine all died all of a sudden (nevertheless control lights for neutral, oil etc. still working). But I think it is the problem in connector in my case. I will buy WD 40 and spray it, connectors tend to oxidize.

just a quick question.
Is your headlight working?
You mentioned the starter button sticking. I believe it cuts power to the headlight/running lights when you activate the start button (sends all available power to the starter)
Your issue could be inside the switch housing.  :unknown:

Hey Alan, yes the headlight and tail light turn signals and neutral light, high beam and oil light all work. When I first discovered the "dash lights" not working I pulled into a dark garage and my headlight was out, the button was pushed in and I could hear my starter running!!! Super panic time..I pulled the starter button out and the lights went on and starter quit running thank god.  I think your right, the lights go out when you hit the start button to put all juice to the starter. I'll be taking the switch apart to further investigate. It is also possible that it's a grounding issue as "balky1" stated or a broken wire someplace, I have repaired a few of those on this bike. I just gotta keep going through it and test any possible culprits with the meter.  31 years old and now over 40,000 miles she's bound to have some issues. Thanks guys!                                                                                                                                                                                      Cheers!                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Charley.
