Hey buddies.
I just joined here and introduced myself (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=14327.0 (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=14327.0)) and latest project, which was a Kawasaki KZ750 from 81, and after only 2 days owning my first FJ, I jumped right into taking her apart and giving her a new look. Im waiting for some parts to get her back running, mainly igniter box and rear brake, but Im not a fan of red or white, even though I must admit the style and paint job of the FJ looks really damn good. The paint is in relatively good condition but there are some smaller rust areas on the tank and the red starts fading, so I decided to make her look as new.
I looked around for 1-2 days and run into the color combiation I wanted a few months back for my Nissan 300ZX.
So I will start to update as I progress, for myself and some others to enjoy.
This is the before pic:

Today I started to paint the first body parts:

Its gonna look amazing to see her like that complete with a smoked windshield and lights.
Are you planning to break it up with some stripes? Like was done on the "solid color" factory paint jobs?
I use black in between. I will have more updates soon. I was driving her the first time today. I think the coils are bad. As soon she gets hot she runs like she gets not enough gas. But its the spark, not the gas. Im pretty sure. The higher the RPM, the worst is gets.

I think the Gold/Silver stripe set that is on the '89 models would look good on this project.

oh nice. i never saw these. i have planned to paint the tank and front fairing complete, because that paint need large areas to really work with the breaking sun, then below the tank the side fairing will follow the black line from the front fender black part and again below that on the side the regular color will go all the way to the back.

Nicely Done! FJ's can look a bit slab sided or blocky with some one-color paint jobs - that will break it up a bit and make it "pop" more
Yes I think it will run great into the black seat. The rear I will shorten and get rid of that ugly rear light and entire box behind the seat. Not sure how yet but I saw some ideas.
I also also run a Carbon Look stripe over the original area where the black stripe divided the red and white on the front fairing and tank.

But thats another model than mine with the turn signal included. Would that fit my fairing? That would be awesome.
Little update. Just the tank missing

It's going to be nice looking.
Where are you located in Puerto Rico anyways? I was there a couple of years ago, and saw a lot of it. Curiously, when I was traveling around and saw motorcycles, nearly all were cruiser/HD. Only saw a couple few sportbikes. There are some very nice roads there, and many times I was wishing I was riding instead of driving a cage.

hey. now i live in ceiba, near fajardo, but i lived pretty much everywhere on the island after i moved here from europe. acutally, most bikes here are racing bikes, especially hayabusas, which i find very boring. im more into classics. sunday is the day in PR when everybody takes his bike, jeep, or muscle for showing it off around the island. good day to ride the bike, although im daily bike driver anyways. there are some awesome raods here, along beaches and in the mountains.
Ha! As luck would have it, I missed the part of the island that you mentioned. We shot down from San Juan to Ponce on 52, then stayed seaside near Guanica for a few days. Stayed in the mountains nearby Utuado for a couple of nights. Bumped around from tip to tip on the west coast, before heading back to Old San Juan to see its sights, then jetted back a day later. Lovely trip, and hope to get back soon. Perhaps this coming winter.
if you do, contact me. i already told another member here i have a tour company, so i can take you to some awesome activities. i also can get you good deals on really good small hotels here in the rain forest.
Sounds super. I'll have to see if the planets align for another trip there. If they look like they're going to, I'll be in touch.
Thanks!

The Power bronze link is for the FJ1100. The photo in the link is a different motorcycle all together. It is just for illustration purposes.
Fred
oh ok. well i would love to see how the product actually looks. they have no pics at all from the different versions. I'm gonna go ahead and email them. i like to see what i buy first.
