Title: 17'' rear gixxer wheel
Post by: scotiafj on July 30, 2015, 02:43:50 PM
:hi: I will be doing the 17'' gixxer wheel swap soon as Ive got all the parts to do it  :good2: I purchased a part worn 150/70/17 avon 3d-xm that had done only 500 miles so it was barely run in :) would I need to fit shorter dog bones ?? seeing as most folk that do the swap fit shorter ones or would it be fine to run the wheel with that size of tyre ? cheers Scotia

What is the width of the wheel? A 150/70 is too narrow for a 5.5" wheel, but will work well with 4.5 and 5.0 wide wheels.

Hi Ive got every thing to do the swap ie wheel, brake torque arm ,disc caliper etc was jus wondering if it would be ok not fitting shorter dogbones on it ,, ??? seeing as it has a higher profile tyre on as most folk fit a 60 or a 55 profile 17'' tyre...and they fit shorter dogs to bring the swingarm down to compensate for the lower sidewalls
:)

No, you don't have to fit shorter dog bones. The difference in OD between the two wheels is not significant (bigger wheel/lower tyre)

The main reason for fitting shorter dog bones is to improve handling and not directly related to the wheel swap.
