Title: Fuel Tank replacement?
Post by: JoBrCo on July 17, 2015, 03:54:04 PM
I was wondering if anyone might know how much it might cost to get a replica FJ fuel tank fabricated out of Stainless Steel?

I saw a custom bike shop on TV that fabricated harleys from the ground up, one was almost completely made of SS.  Which I heard was very costly, but I wonder about just the FJ fuel tank? $1000.00 maybe? More?

Depends on where it's done.
India has many tank makers and you'd be able to get one for 3-400 US$.
Quality might be a bit iffy.
Japanese craftsmen will make an exquisite replica,  using a buck and itll set you back around US $5,000 to do the first one, mostly because they have to make the buck from scratch.
After that, each tank will cost about $1500.
These prices are current, I've been helping a mate rebuild a Vincent here in Australia ( pics will be posted soon).
There's smaller US based craftsmen,  try looking in the classic bike magazines.

Well the Japanese solution, while I know would be quality, I own a Yamaha of course ;), it's far too rich for my blood.  The Indian solution is of course very reasonable, however I'm a quality minded person so that probably wouldn't do either and then there's shipping.  I'll probably try and find someone in the US, local if possible.

Thanks for supplying a ball park figure though, appreciate your time.
