Title: Old Thread on Larger Fuel Tank?
Post by: fj1289 on July 15, 2015, 02:12:23 PM
Anyone remember a thread a while back where someone fabricated a larger FJ gas tank?  As I recall, they cut the top of the tank off, fiberglassed in a section, and put the top back on...

I can't find it now - maybe someone else's search mojo is better than mine .... or maybe it's on the old site?  Pretty sure I remember there being pictures in the post

Thanks!

Thanks guys.

I had thought he had done some fiberglass work -- and was wondering how he had sealed it.  But I see he had it done "right" with just metal work.  I'm looking at "easy" options for making the tank a bit smaller/better shaped.

How small and what shape?

A friend who was racing a ZX7RR (ZX9 motor) made up a false 'tank' and has a small fuel cell from an ATV hidden inside.

To make the cover he made a fiberglass blank using the stock tank as a master. He later used the Blank as a mold for a new 'fake' tank cover that looked more or less stock but altered the weight  and location of the weight on the chassis.

I considered doing something similar on my YZF racer but never got around to it,
