Title: Importing bikes from Canada
Post by: hawkaholic37 on July 11, 2015, 05:06:49 PM
Does anyone have experience bringing a bike into the US from Canada? How hard is it?

There appears to be some good information in this thread from the PNWRiders Forum.  I can't attest to how accurate the information is, but it should help steer you in the right direction to find out.

Well shit, why not a black and white police bike?  To join all the other red and white emergency vehicles in our fleet (popcorn)

I'm not a fan of non-stock FJ paint jobs (noteable exceptions being tRoy's ride and Frank Moore's "Brutus") but I gotta say, I kinda like it...

My understanding is that all bikes imported to both countries will meet both standards, IF they are manufactured by the big four Japanese companies or Harley Davidson. There are some two smokes that were never imported to the U.S. and will not be allowed easily. The Canadian gov't has a website which will tell you which models meet the criteria. There is also an age limitation as well. As they reach a certain age the requirements may change.
For importing to Canada once the vehicle is 15 years old no notice needs to be given, no forms filled out. Simply a bill of sale and an ownership. The biggest concern the U.S. customs has is theft, of a vehicle leaving the country.

I didn't think it was custom, l just thought it was a stock paint job that was not available in the US
