I found my key!
A couple of night ago I was out for a ride. Stopped for a look around and when taking the key out of the ignition, dropped it down beside the steering stem.
After several minutes looking in all the nooks and crannies with the tank removed, I couldn't find it, put the tank etc back on and using my spare key rode home.
So today I went for a little spin up the road. About 12kms from home she starts running on only 2 cylinders - guess where my key was!

Harvy, I can't believe someone else has the same strange mishaps.
I don't think, however, that I've ever thought to take a spare key with me.
You've sparked an idea for me. Where to put a spare key for the ignition and disc lock on the bike that doesn't require seat removal?
Troyskie
Probably lurking somewhere near the coils waiting till your miles away from home before deciding to strand you
I took a spare key and put a dab of silicone on the handle part of the key then set it on the inside of my fairing under the headlight area. It has been there for a few years now. It is attached pretty good and will take a bit of prying to peel it off but not a problem if stranded.

My 93 FJ has a key siliconed to the inside of one of the side covers, from the previous owner.

Leon, does your seat not have a lock?

Not that I have ever needed the key, but I had the same thought, in that, the seat needs to come off to pull the side panels, Right?
Like I said, PO did it, not me.
And yes, the stock seat lock/latch is in place.
