Title: Big AZZ Feet
Post by: ccmxr on January 19, 2010, 10:17:35 PM
OK I have run into a slight problem that I am sure some of you have also run into (I know I know here come the jokes   ).  I have big feet and I have problems getting my left foot under the shifter (which seems small to me) and my foot gets tangled with the kickstand on a regular basis. So my questions are

-Do they make any aftermarket shifters that are larger or do any other streetbikes have a shifter that will work on the FJ?
-Have any of you modified your stock shifter if so what did you do to mod it?
-Is the kickstand suppose to be crowding the shifter so much or could it maybe be bent or in the wrong location?
-Unrelated to this topic but have any of you guys used headlight covers like these http://www.mandp.co.uk/productinfo/301321/Bodywork/Headlamp-Covers/On-Two-Wheels (http://www.mandp.co.uk/productinfo/301321/Bodywork/Headlamp-Covers/On-Two-Wheels)
if so how did you like them.

Thanks

You can weld in a bit to make the shifter longer.  It will make the throw longer also though.  To change that, you'd have to alter the length of the lever that actuates it (shorter from the splines to the joint).

The shifter on mine definitely interferes with the sidestand if the shifter is in too low of a position.

You might find that the sidestand pivot is sloppy and therefore allowing it to both twist and sit higher than designed.  If this is the case, you can shim it with brass shim stock - just remember to grease it!

I ended up getting a new sidestand.....shimmed it 1st, but the shim wouldn't stay put. SS was pretty cheap, and the slop is gone...
