I use my Trip meter. The FJ was my first MC with a fuel meter. Never got used to it.... 180 to 200 miles and I need a filling station... My GPS blocks my fuel gauge... Old school I guess...
I have looked into a few digital fuel gauges. I have found a few that would do the trick. This may sound stupid, but the main reason I have not taken it further is I would hate to loose my clock... :unknown:

Not silly at all Fred. When touring, I have one of the nav app data readings picked to ETA. That's all well and good, but knowing the time at the moment is critical as it helps make route, speed and stop decisions.
My riding style varies from day to day and sometimes moment to moment. That means that my mileage on a tank lately has been as low as 32 MPG to as high as 43 MPG depending on how "spirited" or "casual" my riding was on that tank. Going by the odometer is a bit shakey...especially if you're trying to run across vast spans of desert without having to stop at gas stations every 100 miles. Even if the gauge isn't accurate, it's a fine backup to the odometer!
Wish I had input to your problem, but I haven't had this issue or know how to solve it.
