Took my 11 year old daughter out for her first ride today. She had a blast and was a great passenger. Took her through a few twisties on our local parkway and she kept giving me a thumbs up after every corner! She saw me waiving at the other bikes on the road and it didn't take long for her to catch on. When we got back home she wanted to go right back out again.
What a great way to spend fathers day!
As an aside, she was complaining that her foot was falling asleep from vibrations in the foot rests. Anyone else have this problem?

My wife used to complain about that on my '86 when it had the original steel mufflers. I believe the mufflers mount onto the same bracket as the footpeg mount and the vibes from the mufflers make their way onto the footpegs. Later on when the factory cans rotted out I installed Cobra F1R slip-ons and the vibration problem was gone. The aluminum (much smaller and lighter) Cobras didn't vibrate or resonate nearly as much as the steel cans. On my '92 the mufflers (well, muffler as it's 4-1 for now) mount to a tab that extends off the rear sub-frame so I'm thinking Yamaha recognized there was an issue and since the later models ware marketed to be more sport-touring vs. sport they addressed it with the redesign. Where do the mufflers mount on your ('89?) FJ? You could possibly try to isolate the vibration by rubber-mounting the mufflers.

Zwartie - They mount just slightly forward of the exhaust bracket. I think I'm going to try and fab up some rubbers and see if it helps.
Dave - technically she has 3 jumps to her credit - my wife was pregnant and didn't know it - my daughters first jump was a four way! The whuffos here will wonder what THAT means :) !
My wife and I were both instructors but we did ask another instructor to sign her first jump certificate!

Happy Fathers Day. A wonderful way to share it with your daughter.
The attachment points for the '89/'90 models have a rubber grommet and sleeved washer set up. Check to see if the grommet is there/worn out/ missing. Same for the sleeved washer. Also check the muffler to collector joint for good gaskets and tight bolts.
