Feels great to get back in the saddle again and get that much needed wind therapy!
I got my first FJ when I was about 19, an '85 1100; it was my 3rd bike following a CB360 and a Nighthawk 450. Being in the younger and wilder years I went all over everywhere and had her set up a number of different ways to enjoy every kind of riding I could enjoying every last adventure! I had her for almost 10 years when I got creamed by an asphalt paving truck, hit n run no less. Despite the guy's best efforts I managed to heal up an ride now n then, but haven't had my own wheels for far too long. I just recently acquired an '89 1200 and am looking to make her more than just an A to B rider. I'm hoping to find others riders in SoCal, especially in and around the Ventura County area. I'm not new to online forums, but sure am glad I finally found this one. I'm finding this one a bit different than what I am used to, but hope to get up to speed quick.
Thanks for being here!
Welcome to the group. Quiet a few riders down in your area. There is a West Coast Rally going on over in Coleville, Ca. at the moment that will wrap up this Sunday and then some are going over to the Central Rally in Hill City, SD so responses might be short until they get back on line. There is a great supplier of FJ related parts in Oakdale,Ca. http://www.rpmracingca.com/products.asp?cat=39 (http://www.rpmracingca.com/products.asp?cat=39) Randy at RPM is a good guy to do business with and knows the FJ engine inside and out. He also has a lot of stuff not listed on his WEB site. Randy is a member here and a rider. Just one good source.
I use to fly out of Point Mugu and spent some time running around your part of the country. Wish we had your weather.
We also have a large active group down in Australia so there is usually someone on the forum 24 hours a day. The depth of knowledge is extensive some of the members have owned there bikes since new in 1984 and it is hard to come up with a problem that they don't know about or have a good idea about. Most of us seem to work on our own bikes. Let us know if you need help, lot cheaper and easier to ask first.
As you get a chance post a picture of your FJ ! :drinks:
George
Welcome to the group. :hi:
Not much more to what George said. He did fail to mention the dreaded disease called Moditus. Many members have caught it. The symptoms are..... The desire to modify a motorcycle that is 2 decades old with 21st century bit and pieces, ie..... 17" rear wheels, HID headlights, blue/gold/silver dot calipers and much more. If you can think of a mod, it has probably been done or attempted.
Fred
:hi: and welcome from Australia. I'm new to the forum as well after a similar gap from riding, and long time between FJ's.
I'm almost finished an '84 refurb/rebuild and the couple of times I've gone against the informed opinions here, well, it either cost time or money.
Same as Fred and George said about the rest.
Troyskie.
Welcome Tigger4x, we have a very active group of SoCal members. We may plan a ride up to Ventura and see what the roads are like. Just got back from The WC Rally in the Sierras and now I want ride even more. But busy with work now. Stay connected and maybe we can can get a mini-rally going in your area.
Yes welcome. Ventura good riding in your neck of the woods, we will have to plan something, I see a mini rally in your future. Look at http://www.rpmracingca.com/ (http://www.rpmracingca.com/) if you dare.
Mike
I see a "Dollar Bill Run " in our future ---- that's close enough to Ventura and we get to do 33 again
Let's see how the summer goes. ( only issue is heat for that run ) ( best in fall)
