Title: Auto Drive Technology demonstration
Post by: Arnie on May 27, 2015, 09:40:42 PM
In the near future, all cars may be equipped with auto-drive capabilities like this Volvo.

Gotta love the technology!

I like it. We can now add APE to the endless list of automotive acronyms - Automatic Pedestrian Eradication. If only they could train it to be selective and you could program it for say, Harley riders, parking inspectors, tax inspectors, politicians, people who text while driving, blokes with comb overs ..........

What's next? Send the car out for a Sunday drive while you sit home watching football and drinking beer and when it returns and parks itself in the garage it beams the video of the drive directly to your  surround screen immersiveTV.

Sounds good to me, go for a drive in the country, catch the game and get pissed, all without getting off the couch, what's not to love about new technology, bring it on!

Imagine a road rage incident of the future, driverless car computers hurling insults at each other with digitized voices while it's occupants sip martinis in the back seat, indifferent to the fracas going on between the cars. I wonder if racial vilification laws would apply if one car made offensive remarks about the other cars country of origin or the colour of it's paint......

The mind boggles at the technology future generations will enjoy (?) Who knows, they might even figure out how to make a clutch that doesn't slip without springs that require an act of parliament to change gears.

Our exotic gas guzzling vehicles may well be relegated to nothing but wall art (and book shelves) such as below.

I can't even bring myself to think about an FJ coffee table or hat stand or worst still, incorporated into some arty toilet installation.

Fortunately, I think the worlds oil reserves will outlast me.

Ride on!

Too bad it wasn't a self parking train.  Soon enough your children/grandchildren will ask you what a Red Barchetta was.

Just have to select which era you prefer:

'80's

Or 2000's

I think we will see vehicular automation on the highway before we see it on the street. Long-haul semis is where it's going to start.

Yeah already one on the road fully dot approved. But just in the testing stage. Driver sleeps in the back while it drives. If it encounters anything like snow etc. It wakes him up. If he doesn't get up it pulls over and stops.
80,000 lbs running down the road with no driver.
