Title: 1100 head gasket source?
Post by: indyblue on May 20, 2015, 12:22:56 PM
Anyone know where I can get a new head gasket?  It seems OEM is discontinued in all the parts lists now.  I could still get them a couple years ago.
Will the one for a 1200 from RPM work on an 1100?

There are a few on ebay, but I don't know if they'll be genuine Yamaha or not, I don't trust many ebay listings.

Just give RPM a call and talk thru it.  You'll get the no BS answer and be on your way in no time!

Whats the part number Some sited will allow you to cross reference the part number to any updated number and application. I can run it by the shop I deal with if you have the number.

I an in a meeting at the moment and can't get too creative looking things up.

Looks like my source failed me. No updated numbers or cross reference listed.

I would check with Randy at RPM. I am almost sure they are available from an aftermarket source.  I see one every once in while on e bay but Randy could steer you straight on which one to buy if he doesn't have any.

Not to confuse the issue but for anybody reading this there is at least 2 different Yamaha head gaskets for the FJ 1200. One has no raised areas I assume to help sealing around the cylinders and one is just flat across.  The flat one is an old version and was superseded by the one with raised areas.  Here is a picture.  Often you will fine the old flat ones on e bay.  Not that they don't work, just they were replaced for a reason.
