Hi everybody!
I joined this site back in 2010 but never posted anything or even PM'd anyone until this month. I've mostly just been browsing around in the background.
I've been riding for years and was introduced to an FJ by an old boyfriend back in 1995. He let me ride his FJ when we were traveling in Nevada. I was hooked! In 1999 I acquired a 1985 FJ1100. I've put it through hell. And I live in the city so I don't have a garage; it lives on the street during riding season. I went a little nuts an decided I needed an '84 as well just a few years ago. I ride whichever one is in better working condition and not visiting the mechanic.

Welcome Laura, happy to have another FJowner participate in our digital campfire. Having two FJs is dedication, you will fit in well here.
:good:
Welcome to you too Laura.
Hi Laura,
Welcome! Pull your chair in closer to the campfire here, and jump right in on the conversations. My FJ is a 1985 too, mostly stock.
Cheers,
Red
Welcome Laura :good2: Hope to meet you along the road sometime. Check out a rally sometime, great way to meet other FJ riders.

Welcome not so newbie Laura! Quite a few members in your area...reach out if you need anything. Is your '84 a Stormy red/silver beauty? Cheers! Charley.

Yes it is! I don't currently have a photo to post.
And I see what you're saying about lots of members in my area--good to know!
A late welcome. You have actually been a member longer than I have. My first FJ was a 1985 way back in 1988. There are a good group of members in your area.
There are a few from just north of you that will be attending the Central Black Hills Rally. You might be able to meet up for the run out to South Dakota in 2 weeks.
Fred
Welcome Laura....yes indeed....those Stormy Red and Quartz Silver '84's are special. :hi:

When I get '86 back on the road I want to go Silver and Red with it, awesome colors for the FJ.

I also have two... a highly modified '92 (Wizard) and a new to me creampuff '84 that's starting down the tasteful mod path (and needs a name... I'm liking "Stormy"). This is a great group of people, mostly 50yo guys that collectively know everything about the FJ... maybe even some stuff that's not true :bomb: :bomb:
Continue to enjoy the zoo.

Hi Laura! :hi:
So, uh... What haven't we covered in the past five years that would cause you to still send your bike(s) to a mechanic?
Do you have a copy of the Yamaha Service Manual? If not, they show up regularly on FleaBay.

That's not true, or is it?

I don't currently do any of the work on my bikes. I have the Manual, but I don't have the time and I don't have a garage. I have a friend who is a motorcycle mechanic.

Yep, I have my own mechanic as well, but he is a bit of an A-hole. :ireful: :ireful: :ireful: Being your own mechanic can have its down sides... But I am happy with the quality of work and he works all hours when needed...
