Title: FZ 750 & new baby at home
Post by: Alf on May 19, 2015, 02:16:54 AM
Like a new baby has just arrived at home (human baby, not a motorbike  :greeting: ) this summer I cant lost 6 days going & coming from mainland Spain in a ferry (mainly because my wife could kill me travelling with 2 children alone)

(http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m589/fj1200alf/3mayo2015%204_zpst1gikkux.jpg) (http://s1133.photobucket.com/user/fj1200alf/media/3mayo2015%204_zpst1gikkux.jpg.html)

So I decided to buy another FJ to leave it in Madrid to make fast rides with my friends... but I found this babe (this time yes, a motorbike) in Malaga: a time.capsule 1991 FZ 750 completely new and original with only 23.000 kms in the odo. So I could not resist the temptation and I bought it for peanuts

Alf, you make it sound like a courier dropped it off at the door and your wife would probably kill you if she saw your post, one photo of the genderless baby and three of the bike! Priorities man, priorities!

From someone who has recently been through it, good luck with the one on the right when she's a teenager, she's gorgeous (her mother's genes?). Being a father to teenage girls is hard work.

When it comes to boyfriends, I like that saying "Shoot the first one and the word will spread"

Your newborn already had more hair than me dammit.

Err, nice looking bike too Alf.

++++1 what Noel said. Had 3 girls-- thank the Lord they looked like their mother! Hope you have a shotgun for when she gets older. Good looking bike but GREAT looking kids.  Dave

Thank you for your compliment, guys!

And yes, I´m looking for a shotgun to welcome my daughter future boyfriends. She´s terrible!. She is 5 years old and the other day tell me that she has 2 boyfriends at the school

When I asked her about the opinion of the "old" boyfriend (5 years old!) about the new acquisition, she told me

"he dooesn´t have to know, daddy"

Beautiful girls and nice bike.

I had no idea that Yamaha continued to sell the FZ750 after the 1986 model year.

I had an 86 in Red/White/Blue as my first real sportbike and still have a soft spot for that bike. I have memories of an almost psychotic power delivery and razor sharp handling... and I don't dare ride another one for fear of finding out different...

Well, the idea is fitting an Exup swing arm to use 17" rims with modern rubber, shorter dog-bones and R1 front brakes, similar treatment to my FJ. I rode with a 86 model a lot of times in my youth and I remember that the engine have nothing to envy comparing with my (then) powered FJ1100, so Its a good point to think I´m going to enjoy a lot... and if not, I´m offered the double that I´ve paid for, so anyway I think is a good investment  :good2:

congrats on the daughter!     :good2:

I've always wanted to build up an FZ750.  A man by the name of Tony Tice used to have an excellent website documenting the changes to his FZ750 -- haven't found it again but still looking...

Here is a quick pic of it though - www.sportbikerider.us/SP/8721 (http://www.sportbikerider.us/SP/8721)

Congrats on the child, and the FZ. I too had an FZ 750 back in 85,86. What an awesome motor. I still have an all original 85 to this day. Enjoy that smooth powerful five valve motor. The first of it's kind.

Congrats on both of those new family-members!

And I can only agree to those who mentionned about being a teenage girl's father. I always made sure that I had to clean my .50 when her boyfriends visited her...

You are a blessed man Alf.

Enjoy that new bike but cherish those beautiful girls.

When it comes time to check the valve clearances and reshim that 5 valve engine, let us know how it compares to our FJ's.

Well, after 6 months FZ owner, my impressions last summer in my hollydays travel (7.000 kms.) are in my web, FZ 750 section

Fun bike, but I think the better resume is this phrase of my web test, the day that I went to ride with 3 FJs:

"Passing to any of the  FJs from the FZ is like to get a truck: the road looks narrow and the feeling is that going slower and without much room to improve ... and then you check your references on the road. And it turns out that any of the FJs were about 40 km / h faster when braking at the same points. "

The FZ 750 feels so small compared to the FJ. And as much as I love my FJ's the FZ 750 motor is a real gem.

Nice bike. I put 35,000 k on one in 1986. Valve intervals are 45,000 k after initial check so much less frequent than the FJ. The problem with the five valve motor is that as the valve check is a big job most shops did not do them. Because many of them were never done , many burned out their valves. My good friend put 100,000 k on his and never had a lick of trouble. My FZR and two GTS 1000's have the same five valve motor. Displacement difference aside.

This one, with 23.000 kms on it when I bought it, had 16 under clearance valves. 200+ euros only in shims :bad:  I think it was due to previous owner used only to turn around only, not using properly the bike

The only bad thing that I´ve noted is that it lost the carb balance in around 3.000 kms.
