Title: Oil Change
Post by: Firehawk068 on May 12, 2015, 10:31:58 PM
Upon checking my notes, I found that I have gone way to long on the current oil and filter.
I used full-synthetic Mobil-1 last time, but still went way beyond what I normally change it at. Way beyond!(shame on me!) :negative:

I got some fresh supplies.

Since I have to pull the Kerker system off to get to the drain plug, I decided to change the gaskets.
I also got new nuts to replace those factory barrel-nuts.

While I was at it, I also replaced the repeatedly-crushed o-ring on the filler cap.

All finished! :good:

While I was in the garage, I also put the new odometer reset knob boot on, that I had bought from Randy when I got the exhaust gaskets and stud nuts.
My original one had deteriorated, and was falling apart.

That's got to be the coolest o-ring spares setup I've ever seen!   :good2:

That's today's activity here.  Yesterday did a valve clearance check and checked the TQ on the cam covers and head.  Found 2 head bolts out of spec..  At any rate today is oil and filter change that's pretty much the last bit of work until after the Central rally.

I just had the to end apart 500 miles ago, new rings, new gaskets etc.. I was just checking how it settled in.  All done now, new oil, filter, and carbs balanced.

The oil I removed was nice and clean so I will assume everything from the refurbish is good.  TQ on the head bolts is 25 ft lbs for those that want to check.

Ahhhhh. ..followup re-torquing. Thats a big job... Good on ya.  .... Still, its a great reminder... ie: during an oil change check those pesky lower frame rail bolts, and any other nearby bolts/screws.
