I have a 86 1200 with V & H 4 into 1, I tried removing the fiber glass packing but its still too quiet. I took out the baffle that holds in the stainless tip and got the tone I wanted, question is will it hurt anything to run it that unrestricted?

only the hearing of the person behind you :rofl2:
Do you still have the stock airbox? You might need to re-jet the carbs to prevent going too lean.
Makes it easier for LEO's to pay at tension to you, not like sport bikes are ignored. You might lose some power on the top end. :good2:

With the group I roll with I'm lucky to hear my bike at all.

Yes the stock airbox is still there.
This is what I did to the V&H can. Definitely made it louder. Cut 8 1/2" off the end. Pete.

What did you do with the internal baffle glass ect.?
All the internals were also cut down by 8 1/2". Drilled new rivet holes for the end cap and re-assembled. The V&H label was then centred and reattached. Easy job and a unique sound. Sounds great in the KOOKALOO zone! :good2:
Also looks a lot better. I'm not a fan of the long can look.
