Title: Front drive sprocket nut size
Post by: PaulG on April 29, 2015, 03:50:05 PM
Need to know the size of the nut for the front sprocket for a '92 FJ.  Reassembling suspension/swingarm and new F&R sprockets and chain.  Realized that's a big honkin' nut that I don't have a wrench or socket for.  I took a tape measure to it (don't have a guage/mic) and looks like 35mm.

Can anyone confirm this?  Kinda' stuck until I find out.

Thx

I have an old 1 7/16 inch socket that I use. TQ is 61 ft lbs. Left off, right on :).  I ground down the face a little to get a better bite on the thin nut. The marking on my socket is almost gone but I believe it to be an 1 7/16 inch socket (it is a road kill socket found in the road years ago).  That would be about 36mm.

I used a 2X4 across the swing arm through the rear wheel to lock it down for removal.  Hopefully your chain is still on :).

According to the online conversion site 1 7/16 in. = 1.4375 in. = 36.5 mm  Round down to 1.4 in = 35.5 mm

So 36 mm ... 35 mm?  I'm getting confoozed.

The Yamaha spec is 36mm. :)  The 1 7/16 works fine. Either one will work. Big nut big tolerance. :).
