In a flap as to what to do about the rubber mat that sits on top of the gearbox, I came across this and thought it would provide a good alternative solution. The last few times I have been in heavy rain the bike has started breaking down (without the mat) As I was heading off on a trip last week into what was likely to be shitty weather I needed to do something.

It worked really well and I was very happy with it's performance.

Looks good Noel. Great find. :good2: Not to many XJR parts on this side of the pond.

Great find and an even better price. :yahoo:

Very cool Noel...details please!
It looks like you have the oem steel swing arm, what did you do in the way of brackets?
How about clearance?
Very nice looking install Noel. :good:
Please post more pics of the installation if you can.

Easy on the trigger! This is not a straight forward job. The fact that it is a "Yamaha" hugger is irrelevant in terms of fit. It lines up with nothing, may as well be from any other make or model and there may well be huggers out there that are a nearer fit.
I bought it because it was cheap and basically sat it where I wanted it and made the brackets to fill in the gaps.

It sat nicely over the existing chain guard with all the right clearances but that is where the easy fit ended. I made 4 brackets, the LHS on the outside of the swing arm ( to clear the chain) as seen in the photo above and the RHS on the inside, as seen below.

I made a "mud flap" from 4.5 mm reinforced rubber sheet to seal it all up. The existing holes were a bit big so I drilled between them.

A couple of Tek screws and body washers and job done.

After it's Baptism of fire, a weekend in the mountains with plenty of unsealed roads and rain.
PIA to fit but happy with the end result. Had lots of heavy rain, gravel, mud and riding through water without issue. I guess that's all it has to do and while not a bling person (other than the blue dots) it does look cool!
Most importantly, it does the job.
Noel
well, thanks for the added pics
mmmm, may require some effort yes but, i like how it modernizes the bike and also has a practical side
the swing -arm is coming out this weekend for a new shock(!!!)
even if i could get one here by then, i dont think i would have the time to do the fabwork
meh, maybe it will give me time to find a similar item for less
very nice mod though
p.s. did you actually post a pic of that bike dirty???
