Great save with the flat tire.
With the invincibility /ignorance of youth I rarely if ever gave much thought about getting a flat while on a long ride. Now into middle age and hearing/seeing instances like on the video sinks in. Make sure to plan for unexpected issues.
I have mentioned in another thread about the tiny compressor in a bag that Aerostitch offers. Paired with a Dyna plug kit, all should be taken care of if/when a flat tire happens.

Fred, with the Aerostitch compressor, how long does it take to fill the back tire?
Last time I tried a compressor (20 years ago) it ran down my battery. I ended up ok after push starting it.
I couldn't let the bike idle that long while the tire filled.
I've been using CO2 cartridges since, 4 for the back tire, 3 for the front...I carry 8.
I've always wondered if the newer compressors are more efficient...

I have used it once. I ran it off of the FJ's battery to fill a car tire. About 10 minutes to fill at 38psi. No adverse effect on the FJ battery. I personally feel comfortable relying on it to air up the 180/17 tire I use.

Ok, I'm gonna look into one of those gizmos... Even without a flat, if needed on a tour, it will be nice to be able to add air without having to find a service station.

Pat, I've got one of the "CYCLE PUMP" (http://www.aerostich.com/tools/tire-repair/pumps-air-compressors/cycle-pump-air-compressor.html) jobbied from Aerostitch , its used all the time to pump up motorcycle, car and bicycle tyres, it works really well and has been reliable,
best thing is the Stop 'N Go tyre plug kit you donated lent gifted me fits neatly inside the red bag it comes with,
It's saved me a long wait by the side of the road a couple times now.

Yea, I wondered how you got that Stop and Go kit thru the airport...with all those CO2 cartridges. Thanks Fred, Klav, I've got the pump ordered.
A important note on the Stop and Go kit that uses the mushroom type plugs...these mushroom plugs work bitchen on straight thru type punctures, but if you have a diagonal angle puncture, the mushrooms don't seal that well...the traditional red rope plugs are what you need...so carry both.

This is great info. I myself got a Stop and Go mushroom type plug, but was wondering if it might be prudent to also carry the rope style. The main advantage to the rope style I was aware of, was the ability to keep adding more plugs in to seal the hole (in the event that the hole was too big for a mushroom plug). I have never heard about the 'angle issue' before, but it does make sense.
