Started tearing down the 84 to install the fz1 parts only to find the frame is junk. Cracked in multiple spots.
It's cracked up front at the junction point, bent as well. Cracked at the swing arm pivot too. The wiring harness was hacked up to install the Acewell unit, the fairing crumbled in my hands taking it off, was only held on by 1 screw. I'm not sure what direction I will take t from here, I'm thinking a bonfire right now. It's pretty obvious the bike was wrecked hard and shabbily reassembled. :diablo:
Scott
Scott,
I'm bummed to hear that, as I was hoping it'd be a nice bike.
I have a spare `90 frame, if you need, but it probably won't work with the earlier subframes and stuff.
Call me at home if you need to vent! I'll listen.
Steve
Thanks Steve...I'll look for a frame and a fairing. Meanwhile Deans old 92 just moved to the top of the list.
Scott
This is bad news indeed! :empathy2:
I'm curious as to how much of this info the dealership was aware of before selling it?
I wonder if there is any way of pursuing them for any kind of money back? :ireful:
I feel your pain from way up here Scott. :dash2:
George
As is contract means as is. He told me it was a 1 owner bike, they sold it to him back in 84. It was his baby, bla bla bla. I bought his shpeel hook line and sinker.
I'll fix it. Wiring harness and frames are available, the fairing...not so much.
S
I feel really bad, since I had a hand in helping you get it from them.
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I have '87 main wire harness that has been sitting in my spare parts closet. I don't know it it will work. Just say the word and it is yours.
Fred
You have my sympathies :empathy2:
Remember all things can be repaired if you spend time and money .. :drinks:
So sorry Scott. Stop and take a step back. Maybe the answer is FJ/FZ1 2.0. Bigger, better, stronger, faster.
When your thoughts are clear and the emotion has gone, then the answer will come.
Kurt
Sorry to hear about your project bike. I am sure a parts bike will come up for sale with all the stuff you need. I still cannot believe people aren't afraid of retribution when scamming people.
Metal frame can be welded and make it stronger than new, just my thots
Scott - I've got a bare 85 frame - may be a bit of a paperwork drill to get a title - but should be able to be done...

Thanks, I found a frame for $200 that has a title...it just won't make it for the Rally.
