QuoteHello!
I am about to replace my front tire on my bike. What type do you prefer? I don't drive racing so I guess I don't need the most expensive one.
The size I use today is 120/80 V16 (Av45-st, 120/80zr16 avon azaro). Hope to hear from you
Stepe,
The choices for 16" front tires today are very few. There are Avon radials, and the Pirelli or Metzeler bias-ply tires. Maybe there are other brands available, but I did not find them in the USA. The Avon radial tires that you have are probably the best on the market, for your bike. For my 1985 FJ, I bought two Pirelli Sport Demons, which are bias-ply, and I would not wish to try mixing a radial tire with a bias-ply tire, on a bike. Given more experienced advice (and a little more money), I would have bought two of the Avon radial tires. I expected that if I asked for tire advice here, I'd be told to go search the old posts, instead of getting a good straight answer. Never mind that tires made years ago may not be available today, right? Still, I was
very happy with the Pirelli tires (lucky me!), over the ancient Metzeler tires that my bike came with (and those types are no longer made). So, best I can say is, #1 Avons, #2 Pirelli (but a close second). Metzeler is (I believe) the OEM tire for the old Triumphs.
Cheers,
Red
