Title: Adding another Pony to the stable
Post by: aviationfred on April 14, 2015, 07:18:51 PM
The Silver Bullet has been lonely since the Black and Gold '87 FJ went to another stable. I will be adding a new to me, but older than the '89, pony to my stable this Saturday. The Silver Bullet won't be jealous for awhile, as this is a project in the making. I will post photos of the actual pony when I get it into the stable.

A 1985 Yamaha V-Max. It has not been rode in 3 years.

Here is a tease. Yes it is currently the same color as the photo below.

Ok MR. MAX. Way to go Fred. I wont give you too much of a bad time. It is a Yamaha. Now if you said it was a Gold Wing.

On second thought.IS FRED HAVING A MIDLIFE CRISIS?
IS A RED CONVERTIBLE NEXT?

Has anybody checked Fred for gold chains lately? :shok:

IS FRED HAVING A MIDLIFE CRISIS?

Kurt

Not a direct shot at Fred per se, but...

Being a life-long motorcycle enthusiast, having a mid-life crisis, and buying older bikes seems to be a common theme. Even if you don't know that you're going through one (or several as can happen with some folks), or refuse to admit it!

Watching Fred's moditus disease grow worse each passing day with the FJ--I think it has finally run its course and he needs another project bike.  I think he has picked an excellent bike with the VMax. I hope he posts his VMax mods here. Unfortunately he lives in the same city as a VMax aftermarket supplier so I expect his moditus disease to grow worse. On the other hand this keeps him from spending all his money on beer and women. Good luck with the VMax Fred I am envious. Dave

I agree with Dave^^ although I hope he continues tweaking his FJ. I've learned a lot from his posts.
Judging on the enhancements Fred has made to his Silver Bullet, I can't wait to see what's in store for Mr.Max.

The howl from that V4 when the secondaries open, is glorious. Especially with a Dale Walker exhaust.

Ok Dave...... Spill the beans....what is this Vmax supplier in Wichita?  :scratch_one-s_head:

I honestly had no idea about a Vmax company here.

Thank you Pat for the comments.

Morley's Muscle(Google it). Sean Morley is to VMax as Randy is to FJ. I have talked to him a couple of times--seems to be a guy the same caliber as Randy.  Semper Fi. Dave

congrats on the new pony..

There is a group for them as well with some crazy cool stuff you can do to the v-max.  You gotta loose the shaft if you want to handle corners , there is a chain drive conversion that will make it all better. get ready to spend some money.

Have some fun with the 3rd gear burnouts.  :wacko3:

The VMax  that my friend was willing to sell me before it was stolen was an 86. It did not get ridden regularly as he has many bikes. He said it has the same carburetor issues the FJ has--namely small idle circuit passages easily clogged with the crap they sell for gas. To prevent this the overflows were routed to the side and he would drain them after riding. Good luck with the carbs Fred.  Dave

Nice addition in the barn! I like them, I have a famous story to tell about a high school janitor who rode a Vmax and took said student on a lunch time power ride, can you say wheel stand, very brutish looking big Yamaha that scared the shit out of me, but will tell another time.

Another pony? I would say adding a V-Max is adding a barn full of ponies. Way to go. I love the sound of the V-Max. Enjoy !

Good looking v-max , looks like it has the case guards already installed...sweet.

So trivia question .. where is the gas cap?

Yes case guards, stainless steel front an rear brake lines and a Yamaha genuine accessories Corbin seat.

I am thinking Silky White for a repaint and Real Carbon Fiber carb scoops. Black Supertrapp mufflers.

White!  :bad:       But it's your Max so feel free to paint it green if you want.

Red is the correct color for that year . It looks like someone already painted the scoops black , go for the polished aluminum look .. Carbon fiber is ok.

I used to own a 85 v-max myself years ago and I did it again with a 2001 v-max with the all carbon fiber look. The red always looked better to me.

You know there is a mod to bring all 6 carbs on at once.

Under the seat.

Nice Fred, I'd love to have a V-max myself.

Congrats again on the V-MAX. I would have called you but you were probably out in the shop painting or power coating something. Fred will busy now, all the OT he can get. Farkels aren't cheep.
