Seeing as I put my hand up to host the next Manshed day, I'd thought I'd put it out there to get some feedback as to when to hold it. Overtime at work is finally over so my weekends are free from now on. I'm thinking maybe May, June, but am flexible, so let me know what suits you.
Tony.
I'll be there if I can and I have no preference for date..
:good2: :good2:
just let me know a date and ill be there :good2:
Most weekends are good for me. Might need somewhere to lay my head though.
im sure (85%)that i can make it on when you's decide,,, ken
MAY 16 works for me ....
Our Canadian friends my have started something.
We could get our bikes prepped, for a run down Casino way a couple of weeks after....
I love the way you think DT. :drinks:
at a guess i'd say may the 2nd is out for me
Mate, May 2nd is out for me sorry. (I`ll be at the XS1100 National Rally at Wellington Caves NSW). :drinks:
No worries Ken, Doug, I was thinking more like the middle of the month anyway, and as it so turns out, Chris has girl stuff planned for the weekend Darran suggested, so how about we make it for Saturday 16th May.
In case anybody has missed it, The next Manshed day will be Saturday May 16th 2015 at my place at Yamanto. This should give enough time to order parts if you want or need to do something to your bike on the day. I want to check my shims, balance the carbs, and if not already done by then, fit my GSXR rear wheel.
I've got a 6m x6m Shed with power, so big enough to fit a couple of bikes in at a time to work on, under cover parking with a table and chairs for the rest that don't need any work done and just want to sit back and chill. I've got enough basic tools to cause havoc like rattle guns, welders, drill press, hammers, spanners, etc... but bring any special tools that you might think you need.
Oil changes and such are no problem, just bring oil and filters etc...
Probably have a BBQ or something for lunch with drinks, so yeah come on down, should be someone here to help out if you need something done your not sure of.
Tony.

That is something I will be watching Tony. I haven't checked mine for about the last 12 years! I should have watched the shim job on LBs bike at Stus day recently, I'm stuffed if I know how to work out sizes needed etc :empathy3:
Your an expert with these shimmy things aren't you Ken?

Sorry Mark, Can't offer any accomodation at all, but I see Ray is offering a spare bunk in his caravan. A generous offer, Thanks Ray, and a lot more comfortable id say than crashing on a cold concrete floor.
Thanks Tony. Ray I might take you up on the offer.

All these years and still looking after my little brother...lol
As usual I'll bring the carb tune and fork tool.

Your an expert with these shimmy things aren't you Ken?
hehe, no. It's easy enough to figure out with the chart , but my understanding is if it's just to tight (say .02mm) go down one size. There's a 50/50 chance that's wrong.
:pardon: Thats what stuffs me up, the sizing charts and how intake/exhaust measurements are worked out etc. I'll be taking notes at Tonys thats for sure, :wacko3:
Speaking of which, where at Yamanto are you Tone?
Just up the road from the shopping centre Ray on Powells Rd.
Lets see, #25?
Ooooh, you were close Ray, it's #21
what times kick off bones? is anybody going thru the city ,up ipswich road way?
ken
I'm up with the sparrows every morning Ken, so kickoff will be whatever time you can drag yourself out of bed and get here.
ok tony, i'll be there fairly early, get your valve job out of the way early,, ciao
We'll be heading up the scenic route Ken, back of Greenbank and then up Springfield-Yamanto Road, (or whatever it's called) :good2:
Just checked - Centenary Highway.
Hi all,
is anyone meeting up along the way with the view of travelling in together? Coming from Redland bay and do not know that side of town very well.... would save me getting lost. Just let me know where and when.
Also - I have a carb tune as well - happy to bring it if required..
Rob (dayta)
Hey Rob! I and a couple of others will be leaving Munruben to head up the scenic route to Yamanto. If you wanted to come in the back way from Redland Bay-Loganholme-Browns Plains for example, it would be easy enough to meet up.
Hoo Roo
Thanks Ray..sounds like the ticket..Just let me know what time and where.

Bender, you will need a cold engine to measure your valves, like over night cold. The valves will measure different on a warm engine vs. a cold engine. And the valve clearance numbers are based on a cold engine.
gday steve, mr monkey is spot on but when we're up at bones joint we can organize sometime to do yours,

Stua,
You might want to delay your trip south.
Just in case you haven't heard, there has been a "Weather Event"
Then again, it would be a great time to determine where flood insurance would be needed.
Seriously, hope that everyone in the "flood zone" is dry and Ok.

Hi All. Having just cleared my schedule for the "foreseeable future" I'm aiming to get Yamanto for the day - looking forward to catching up after being a no-show at Grafton.
I've got a couple of unsuspecting mates up that way, all within 100kms or so of Ipswich whom I'll have a chance to see as well..
New tyres this week in preparation, and some general tidying up.
Having hit the maps yet - I'd welcome any and all suggestions/recommendations for stretches of "must ride" road between Melbourne and Yamanto - all will be considered...
See you on the 16th.

Hi Pete, Day 1 - Endeavour Hills to Cann River and up to Cooma I think - haven't ridden that road. Detour down the B72 looks nice - though last time a mate and I rode around the coast road getting from Narooma to Nowra took an age..... was trying to stay away this time.

If you want some input on some good routes between here and the Qld border let me know. Done a lot of rides in that direction and we avoid major highways and blue light hotspots. Pete.
Glen,
No, no, no. The Princes Hwy through Gippland is a major bore.
But, if you are determined to go that way, turn off at Orbost and take the Bonang (C612) through Delegate and up to Bombala. Much more interesting than the Monaro and it gets you off the Princes earlier. When are you planning to leave? You want to be quick to beat the snow up there.

I agree with Arnie 100%. The Bonang is a "must do" bit of road but only if you like corners. Hundreds of them, non stop for 125 klms. Once you get to Bombala and you want more corners, take the Mt Darragh road down to Pambula on the coast. Up through Tathra, Bermagui, Batemans Bay and up the Clyde Mountain, Braidwood and then on to Goulburn. Head to Bathurst either via Oberon or Tuena. Both great roads, can't go wrong with either of them. :good2:

And then from Bathurst, up to Sofala and cut across through Kandos/Ryleston and take the run up the Bylong Valley rd to Denman....... and turn around and ride back to Ryleston just cos its that good!
Then you can take in Mudgee, Gulgong, head for Dunedoo, turn right and then left to Coolah and then the Mullaley-Coolah rd. Head east to Gunnedah and Tamworth........ from there take your pick of Armidale and the Waterfall Way thru to Grafton, or stay inland thru Glen Innes and Tenterfield and then across to the Summerland Way at Casino.

Took the words right out of my mouth, Harvy. My only adjustment would be; Bylong Valley to Musselbrook, New England to Nundle turn off at Wallabadah ,windy back road to Walcha. Thunderbolts way to Inverell, Glen Innes, Gwydir Hwy to Grafton. Pete.
Pete, Harvy, Arnie many thanks, that's more than enough for me to be going on with - out with Google Maps.
Arnie, wholeheartedly agree on the Princes Hwy to Gippsland, thanks. Setting off on the 12th.
Just a reminder for next weekend, here's my address again.
http://goo.gl/maps/t7JAs (http://goo.gl/maps/t7JAs)
It's easy to find, once you get off the highway turn left at the lights at the shopping centre and I'm about halfway up on the right. I'ts a lowset brick set back up from the road, so you'll have to ride up on the grass to get into the back yard. What i'll do is park my 4x4 out the front so when you come across a red Toyota 4runner, look to your right and you'll see a carport with the gates open, ride up the bank but don't gun it because the grass will be wet from the dew and you could end up being the morning's entertainment
Once through the carport you'll see an undercovered area to the right, just pull in there and park if your doing nothing to your bike, if your doing something to your bike, ride up another little bank into the shed. There'll be a hot coffee or tea plus some nibblies waiting for you. Forecast is for a possible shower, but I reckon it'll be fine weather, so I'll see you then.
Tony.
Was just going to send you a message about the day Tony. Sounds good, might bring my Project Carbs along and rebuild them, will see. I think Mark is still coming up Friday from Grafton , and Rob is still coming as well.
I did ask my brother today (who is pushing me to get HIS Project '92 done!), if he wanted to come along and shoot the breeze etc. hope this is alright.
If you are still coming Rob if you wanted to turn up at my place around 8.30-9.00, that would be good. Let me know and I'll send you my address. I'm 10ks south of Browns Plains, and it's a good run to Yamanto up the back way through Springfield etc.

Ok , good news. I should be able to make it. If Glen can ride up from the icy wasteland of Victoria then I can ride down from Caboolture. Who else is traveling south by bike ( no trailer queens, puh-lease ) and can we meet up on the way. I would like to get my carbs balanced and possibly the timing advance mod.

Got a good bit of overtime that day, 5 hours to do a 30 minute run. These weather events seem to be happening a little too often. How did you go, any flooding - hope the bike collection was unharmed
no real damage stua, about 3 inches of water went under the house, washed out all the mud the next day.
wifey didnt get home till 11pm that night. ive seen plenty of rain that heavy before but not for that long,
i reckon we had to have had 300mm at home.

I probably will scream like a bitch,
And i trust doug but he better not go to bloody stupid.
No worries ken, the chair has a hose out floor!
I have developed a number of strategic communications and procedures regarding first time chair riders. (My job these days is as a facilitator for risk assessment and hazard identification.)
For example, when Timbo`s Faye came for a ride I gave her the spiel about tapping my left leg if she`d prefer I went slower or that she was uncomfortable in any way (following her request to demonstrate some capabilities). I then drove leisurely to the nearest Macdonald`s drive thru (this takes awhile usually, but good fun....chair holstered, on board water pistols are kept concealed depending on how cheeky the staff are)....on leaving I handed her my capped, large takeaway vanilla Latte to hold on to.
(by this time I had worked out she was definitely right handed!) Heeeehehe! :diablo:
Now to work out a strategy for ball protection from the expert! :drinks:

Yeah mate, all organised now, I`ll meet you at the Ettamogah pub at whatever time you like.
Looks like 2 bags of cement will be my passenger unless someone wants the experience of a lifetime?
How's 7:30 at the servo?
I'll fuel up there.

I'm very jealous guys, I think we need to have a South Coast Manshed day .
Hello Tony, I'll have my brother Shane with me on Saturday as well. He will be driving up in the car ( or I might let him ride my bike, Naaah he can take the car)
I said it would be good for him to meet a few of the crew, watch some maintenance etc :good2:
Sounds like it might be crowded at you place Ray. Am I still right to stay? Looking forward to the ride.

Set a date and a venue....If you plan one for October/November would be good....even if you find you`re by yourself it will still be worthwhile! :drinks:
No you're fine Mark. Shane is just coming up for the day from Tweed Heads. What time Friday do you think you will arrive?

No worries Ray, I had a rough head count and looks like it could be around 15 people. 2kg chicken wings and 2 kg snags ( not sure what flavour yet) plus nibblies should keep the wolves at bay. If I've still got to use a chair and whip to fend them off, I'll throw some dim sims and spring rolls at em.

Troyskie !
You don't need a Man Shed day. You need a ride, after all the work you've put in.
October/November is the time for the annual Mapleton Muster.
A little something from last year to wet your appetite

I gotta agree. The Mapleton Muster has morphed into a must do Claytons rally.
1. Arguably the best little ride in Australia with spectacular scenery and motorcycle genetically modified roads!
2. Award winning coffee shops everywhere!
3. Cheap comfy accom includes an award winning pub, filled with FJ mates!
It`s Timbo`s baby, inaugurated to satisfy his lust for twisties. He comes down all the way from from Gladstone for it!
I reckon we`ll have more than a few interstate guys this year.
We better get that date set before you set the South Coast bi annual manshed day, me thinks. (popcorn)
(Bones, I`m a large and prefer black) :drinks:
Still up in the air as to whether i can make it - I may end up in Cairns by the weekend.
Harvy
T shirts... Haha. You blokes will try anything. :blum2:

I had no idea you guys were so into chooks!
Are the things we have in common....endless?
Okay given I`ll be in the presence of gallinaceous culinary connoisseurs, I am choosing The Bones Manshed to unveil my secret..."Cooked ManChook"!
A hidden fetish of mine for years, I`ve decided to come out of the Galliformes closet and present not one but two cooked chooks from my mate Frank, for your tasting!. Sir Frank (A Sir is Way above any Colonel!), is the God of Cooked Chook that stumbled over this recipe while preparing his coveted Smoked Ham legs for Christmas some years ago near my place......
One of his live chooks had stumbled into the Smokehouse just as Frank was closing the door on the last batch of his fat juicy Sus scrofa domesticus.
(They were required by culinary appreciatos that salivate like mad dogs against his butcher shop doors, waiting for same to open daily).
Yep, one of his favourite chooks subsequently suffered a sintered fiery death that would have been sacrilegious, if wasted.
.....Frank had discovered the ManChook secret recipe! :yahoo:
Phoned him today and sure enough he has some ham coming out of his bakehouse on Friday and will cook us up a couple directly after, in the same Smokey, burnt Ham oven!.......Yummee! :drinks:
Cooked ManChook, :sarcastic: :rofl2:

Probably 7 - 7:30ish Ken.
Want me to call past your place on the way?
Harvy
Gday harvy, i was going to leave a bit earlier but i tell you what, it will be a bit chilly so yeah why not.
i'll wait out the front for you and be ready to go. This way i can follow you, i have a tendency to get lost,
Hey guys, this isn't the thread for it but I'll bring it up on Saturday. I just did a country trip, Kingaroy/Murgon/Ban Ban Springs/Biggenden/ Bundaberg/Gladstone and then back home through Gympie etc. Tell you what, that run from Murgon/Ban Ban Springs to Biggenden is freaking unbelievable. And that was in the car. I would love to do an overnighter following that route, (not all the way to Gladstone) plus something interesting on the way back, not straight down the highway. I think Timbo will be pretty familiar with that run, :)
Anyway, food for thought :good2:

I did that Ban Ban springs to Childers bit in March. Nice bit of country and decent road. The only time it rained was at the twisty bit near Childers. Bugger Its a nice relaxing run from Toowoomba to Ban Ban Springs too.
Mark
Hey Ray, I am doing a hardarse run ( 1600 km / 48 hours ) on tues 26 May leaving from Wooli, NSW where we are having a few days holiday. I was trying to think of a route that I haven't done before and will now probably go Ban Ban springs. The run will go Wooli - Macquarie harbour - Bendemeer - Toowoomba - Ban Ban Springs - Maryborough - Caboolture. Thanks for the tip, see you tomorrow
