With consultations from very knowledgeable FJ owners and mechanics, I wrote the above post because I was tired of talking about it....
I suspect we all we all were.
Geez Pat, I just finished reading the your clutch file (I started yesterday), you write in that world weary tone that suggests someone finally had to settle it once and for all and write the ultimate clutch guide, to end the need for further discussion forever, but it only reflects in house views.
In the interest of balance, and to be fair, can I offer the view of the greater motorcycle repair industry with their stand on the subject
"A new set of fibres and a spring while your in there will return 99% of bikes to as new/serviceable condition"
There may have been some, but I can't remember a single bike where that wasn't the case.
In 45 years I have never given clutches much thought until I came here. It was always so simple, clutch worn out, replace it.
You cover a lot a great stuff in your write up but ignore one significant fact, fibre plates are porous and absorb contaminants from the oil, much of the same stuff that ends up in you filter, and perhaps even additives from the oil itself and over time become glazed and lose grip.
I also can't recall a single occasion here where someone, jumping through all the hoops recommended, hasn't reported back that their plates are within spec.
I understand input from the outside world is rebuffed with great vigour here, but some things really bug me, this is one them.

The same questions, over and over, ad naseum
Don't talk about it then.
"Earl" seems to be the real deal and someone you believe, ask him for an opinion.
