Hi all
Does anyone have experience with having Motion Pro make custom throttle cables. Their price seems ok at about $40 per cable but I have no idea as to the quality of their work.
Tom
i have used them a couple of times for custom cables
they e mailed me a very clear diagram so i could accurately measure and identify the fittings and free play
the frankinbike was just that, i ordered the "revolver" throttle kit and spoke to the tech about what i measured and we got it correct the first time
Matt was the techs name and he was very patient and possessed great communication skills
i was very satisfied with the transaction

Great thanks for the input. I will contact them tomorrow.
Tom, Motion Pro made some nice +2" push/pull cables for my '84 that has a handlebar conversion. They did great work. They already had the specs on file for the oem stock replacement cables so they just added 2" to that length. Ordering could not have been easier.
Remember, my '84 as do all the early FJ's, use a splitter box....you do not have that feature on your '92. You have one piece push/pull cables from the grip to the carb linkage. At the carb your cables go thru a 90 degree sweep to drop down to the carb linkage...These sweeps are something they do not have.
I called them to order a new set for a '93 I've been working on and they said that I would have to send the old set in, for them to make a new set.
If you just need the stock cable length it will be easier and less expensive to order a new oem set.
$62 for both cables and hardware...not too bad: http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Yamaha/Motorcycle/1992/FJ1200D/HANDLEBAR+CABLE/parts.html (http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Yamaha/Motorcycle/1992/FJ1200D/HANDLEBAR+CABLE/parts.html)
If you need a custom length, Motion Pro is your source, but you will have to send your old cables in...
Hope this helps. Pat
Thanks Pat.
I didn't think about the 90 degree drop at the carb bracket. I hope they can duplicate that. The short story is that my carbs are not OEM . They are Mikuni RS flats and the OEM cables are too long. I have rigged them to work but I am not confident with it.

But if you need them SOONER than LATER, you might want to bite the bullet, and order from Randy at RPM. (He has them in stock, and will ship quickly.)
I ordered a set from Partzilla last Monday, and am still waiting.

Too bad you don't live closer. I have a friend that makes custom cables. And he's pretty cheap too. Going to have him make them for the turbo bike.

Where is he located. . Do you have any idea of his turn around time and cost?
