Happy as I am with my '85 1100, I have just bought a '92 FJ from Paul up in Napaneeeeeee...thanks for the good deal buddy :good2:
Insurance here in Canada and especially in Ontario, is F***king crazy. I just received my renewal...no tickets/demerit points for a few years and they jerk my chain for an extra $200.00  read $1,054.00 for bog basic insurance for the coming year :ireful:
Now during my peaceful, easy going, refusal with my agent to pay this amount, I ask how much for a 1200...no extra comes the reply!! O K says I, go sort out the person responsible for said silliness and come back all sensible like or... :diablo:
:mail1: Outcome...$250.00 discount off silliness persons renewal price...and a seven year newer bike for this year :yahoo: Win, win, me thinks eh :dance2:
Now all Paul has to do is dig out the substantial snow barrier blocking the new girls escape!!!...only kidding my friend   ... :drinks:
John.

In Alberta mine is a total of $375 for both my '92s. No collision, of course,
Jeff
Damn, and here I thought California was the most expensive place to live... My insurance is through Gieco and it's around $80 a year for basic coverage. Strange as your riding season is so much shorter than ours.
CraigO
I would say dig a trench down there and get her out before ole Wags changes his mind. Most generally he accumulates many and sheds few. Kinda like pounds as one gets older.
Good news all around Tiger! :drinks:
You'll have to come up for a visit and a rip. Spring is acoming :good:

Yep...Basic coverage here in LA for my '92 just came up last week. $83 for a year. From 2002 - 2012, I had the bike parked for TEN years...just thought I would get around to rebuilding it *soon*...the insurance was so cheap, I just kept paying it...and the registration...

Hahahahahahahaha...no worry Paul. Plus temps all this week :good2: All that white stuff will be a memory soon enough :wacko3:
John.
Welcome to the '90's ! :good2:
Now you'll have to update your music from those big-hair L.A. power ballads to Seattle grunge. :dance2:
I don't even open my insurance renewal anymore. I just take out the slip, and throw the rest into the "mail pile".
It just makes me wanna' bitch slap somebody when I realize my insurance comes to nearly 50% of the value of my bike. And there is no escaping it here. Despite the dozens of insurance companies, all the quotes are the same. Strange...., just like the gas prices...., cell phone rates.... etc. etc :ireful:
Hence the exploding head!
Insurance is Stickler for me too...to the point if it keeps increasing i'm going to look for a new ride...Pathetic i got a letter saying my 30yr old bike was banned from coverage...I'm paying close to 900$ to drive this year....Sickens me to see a snot nose little shit running wild on a R6 or Gixxer or 636 paying half what i pay with collision.I'm running out of lube everytime i pay insurance.I love my FJ....without a half decent job i'd be parked too...
WTG Tiger nice upgrade!
In lieu of paying insurance premiums many states let you self insure. You can do this 3 ways,
1) in a cash deposit or better yet,
2) a letter of credit from your bank (you keep the accrued interest)..or
3) You can get a bonding company to post the bond. In most, if not all cases, the annual premium the bonding company will charge you (for renewal) is far less than what you would pay the insurance companies.
Food for thought. Look into "self insurance" provisions that may be offered by your jurisdiction.
I'm not sure about everywhere else Pat...but here in Ontario there is only a few companies that will insure bikes and it's getting shorter as we speak...My broker told me it's getting to the point where they are forcing us to pay extreme amounts to force us to not ride.I am accident and ticket free and been riding for 32 years, and got quotes from 870 up to 1700$...and here in Ontario my FJ is classed as a Sport bike, not Sport touring.
I understand the lack of insurance companies causing the exorbitant premiums, but my point is that, is there any provisions in your law for being self insured? If so, what is it?
Not here Pat...and it's i believe 2500$ fine for no insurance if caught...
Who are you insured with Sabre? I've had mine with Dalton Timmis for several years now and they just keep taking the money out of my bank, no notices yet about it being too old. Mine is an 1984 so it is 31 years old. Not cheap but not devastating. All I try to do is not rock the boat so I don't have to switch coverage. Then I'd face a problem with a 31 year old machine.
I switched to Dominon which was bought by Travlers, Dominon would not insure me ,they won't insure sport bikes, ended up with Intac

Makes me want to move to Alberta, I pay 995 dollars for a short riding season in my book. You guys living down south have it made, my driving record is in good standing now that I have grown up a little and still we get slapped with an outrageous dollar figure. Canada seems to be the whipping boy for corporate agenda, like Paul mentioned us Canadians pay the highest rate for cell phones on the planet and I bet our insurance rate is right up there as well. It does feel like we are being pushed off our bikes with crazy high rates that middle class can barely afford.

Last year we had to start shopping around as Jevco was bought out by Intact and doubled our rates to 800-900 per bike. The wifie did all the shopping and ended up insuring us with an Allstate agent in Kingston. She got us rates that were a hair lower than what we previously had. .... Around $450 per year (PLPD only) for an 88 or 91 FJ. We also saved a bundle by insuring our home and other autos with them as well. They claim to have a 'blip forgiveness' provision, too.. supposedly our rates wont go up for the sake of a small, onetime ticket..... Still , its frustrating when comparing Ontario rates to our neighbours'.
My wife and I took the six hour round trip out to Paul's FJ stables on Saturday to pick up my 'new-to-me' ride. After a celebration lunch with Paul and his better half, (Paul's birthday and my new acquisition), we loaded her up on the trailer and hauled her back to her new back forty.. :dance2:.
I have a new set of Avon radial rubber, RPM spin on/off oil adapter kit, new plug wires/caps and a full set of brake pads awaiting installation. A new fuel pump is also on it's way up from Randy at RPM...and I need to get her a new battery.
The 'goodies', like the RPM handle bar risers, GPS mount, Uni pods, luggage rack/hard bags, Corbin seat, etc, etc, will all be transferred over from my '85 and on to the '92, in the coming weeks leading up to the new riding season. Then I have to find a good home for my retired '85 :empathy:
John.
...and here she is on her home coming :good2:
Don't forget to transfer the mirrors too... unless you like a good view of your elbows. But then again they are such handsome elbows. :blum2:
You could always put the '85 up in the front window. Hang some plants off it. Call it an Objet d'arte :good:
Just like this... sort of.
:hi: Weather is nice and warm, snows all gone and the new season is up and running. Lots of bikes out and about yesterday and I would think it will be the same again today...but not for me, just yet :sorry:
Yesterday I finally got my a$$ in to gear and made a start on 'Blue'...
Both wheels removed and farmed out to a friends shop for a new set of Avon rubber to be fitted and wheels balanced :good2:
Front and rear brake pads removed, serviced the calipers and new pads installed all round :good2:
Front sprocket removed and a new one from RPM installed :good2:
Front wheel and brake calipers reinstalled and all torqued to spec :good2:
Rear wheel and caliper reinstalled...needs chain adjustment done and rear wheel torqued up (popcorn)
Clutch slave cylinder removed, ripped down, cleaned and rebuilt with a new rebuild kit :good2:
Clutch master cylinder drained and cleaned out :good2:
Fresh fluid in the clutch master...and all bled off at the slave end. Two new screws replaced the old ones in the master cylinder lid :good2:
RPM handle bar risers swapped out from the '85 :good2:
Corbin Lady & Gun Fighter seat swapped over from the '85 :good2:
'Nuff typing for now...gotta go and do some more :drinks:
John.
That will be an awesome bike for you.

:hi: Well thank you kind sir...I do believe you are correct in your assumption :good2: :drinks:
John.
O.K...here we go again:
Chain adjustment done and rear wheel torqued up to correct setting :good2:
Old spark plugs out and in to the recycle bin...New spark plugs gapped and installed.
Old spark plug wires/caps have also gone to the recycle bin and my new plug wires/caps installed. (I buy spark plug wire by the reel and make up my own wire/cap sets).
Fired her up...Oil drained, oem housing/filter removed. Filter discarded, housing cleaned and put on shelf. New RPM spin on/off filter adapter kit, filter and fresh oil installed.
Nearly there :drinks:
When your done can you do all that shit to mine too? I might even be able to pay you with a beer... or two....

:hi: Hi hi five, my '92 is alive :yahoo:
My brother Peter came over after work. We pulled the carbs, stripped them down, cleaned and rebuilt the set with brand new complete carb kits from Sirius Sonic from Cambridge...check them out at www.siriusconinc.com (http://www.siriusconinc.com) & www.siriusmotorsportsinc.com (http://www.siriusmotorsportsinc.com)
Carbs where then reinstalled, complete with new gas lines, a new in line filter and the Uni-pods from my '85. Fired her up, dialed her in, geared up and away we went for a wee shake down ride :good2:
I am pleased to report that 'Blue' is fully awoken from her five years of sporadic slumbers and she is now ready for the season ahead :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Awesome possom Tiger!! You seem to have that effect on bikes again and again. Just in time for the beautiful weather, too!!
See you in a couple weeks at Fjjohnnies

They are the same carb kits (Keystar) that I purchased recently for my '92. They are going in next weekend, they should work out quite ok.

The four kits, #KY-0561, including taxes (13%!!!), came to $173.00. No local shipping charge, free shipping over $80.00 and a flat shipping rate in Ontario of $10.00 (I think) :scratch_one-s_head: I picked up :good:
