Title: Any Fj guys on O'ahu HI.
Post by: weymouth399 on February 25, 2015, 10:25:33 AM
Just as title says.
I'm going to be in the Honolulu Oahu area 4/27-5/4. Like to go for bike ride while I'm there.
Does anyone know of a place that rents bikes preferably non HD?
Good roads?
TIA for any info.

Non HD?  I take it you are not old enough to appreciate a slow, old tech, loud bike that drives like a truck? You think motorcycles are for fun?     Dave

Nope I'm only fifty. I've never rode one yet, XR1200 maybe? XR750 for sure, but that's it. I ride fun bikes, slow, loud, wouldn't be fun for me.

Try Big Kahuna Motorcycle Rentals: www.bigkahunarentals.com (http://www.bigkahunarentals.com)
I rented a BMW from them about 8 years ago or so.

Just be prepared to sit in stop and go traffic from 0300 until 2300 every day.

Actually, get out of Honolulu, visit the North Shore and eat at a shrimp truck.  Don't waste time visiting the Dole plantation.

I recall seeing lots of female bikers when I was there about 2 years ago.

Montgomery Powersports is near the airport, they might rent.  They were real friendly when I stopped in to kill a few hours before a flight.  Even tried to talk me into test riding a new Indian Chief.

Thx for the replies, I don't plan on being in Honolulu very much. I'm only there to see my 80yr old mom that now lives with my sister. But like to go for a ride while I'm there. Do we have any members on that island?

Wife and I went to Oahu for a week this past Sept. First time in Hawaii.  We rented a Camaro convertible and drove all over the island... it doesn't take long.
Here's my opinion: It's a beautiful, beautiful island, but it's small and crowded. It's 44 miles long and 30 miles across. Plus there's two 'mountain' ranges that run north and south on either side, so the roads are up the middle, or up the sides, and there's not very many of them.
And over a million people live on the island. (Laramie County, Wyo, where I live is 4 times larger than Oahu, with only 90,000 people.)
Except for a couple miles on the 'interstate' on the north side of Honolulu, the speed limit is 45 or less.  And there's lots of traffic. And the roads aren't very twisty. And the Honolulu PD patrols all over the Island, and we saw them a lot.

So if you are hoping to get to Oahu for some awesome riding on curvy tropical roads, that's not going to happen.
Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful place and I want to go back. We rented a room at a B&B in Haliewa on the North Shore and it was awesome.
Rent a bike if you want to, (or a scooter) just realize it's not like riding through the Rockies or down Tail of the Dragon.

What cracked me up was seeing ultra high performance sports cars like a Lambo, Porsche, souped up Vettes, when because of the size of the island and congestion, there is absolutely no place to take a vehicle out like that and wind it up to even 100.  Cars like that on Oahu are purely a status symbol. Like having a 50 foot yacht on a pond.

But you'll love Oahu.

Check out the costs to Australia lately? The dollar has crashed here and bookings can be paid years in advance.

I reckon you don`t need more time, (we all got the same amount of that daily)...just the bit of "can do" that all FJ riders have. (or am I wrong?)

Oh......and if ya want to attend a Rally, start up a debate on preferred destination with a promise and you`d very probably influence it`s venue location.

"The only difference between a dream and a goal......is a date!"    ....all easy going here.    :drinks:

(mmmm.....my daughter is on hols at Harvey bay this week.....floating onto Fraser island as I Type).   http://www.visitfrasercoast.com/destinations/fraser-island (http://www.visitfrasercoast.com/destinations/fraser-island)

I don't want to go to hi. But I haven't seen my 81yr old mother or my sister in 2+ yrs that's the only reason.
I was there 25 yr ago that was enough. But the few hrs I'm not with family I want to have a release. Not going there to ride that's what NC & TN are for.
