Title: custom chopper I built (a while ago) Demon Angel
Post by: giantkiller on January 13, 2015, 11:57:35 AM
Just thought I'd show you one of my previous obsessions.
Decided I wanted a chopper. Looked at big dogs. The one I wanted set up how I wanted was $28,000 at the time.
I thought I could build one way better for less than that....
$35,000 and 18 months of total obsession later. At least I got one right. :dash1:(http://fjowners.com/gallery/8/2349_13_01_15_11_31_28_2.jpeg)

113cu 120hp/120ft lbs.
To me bikes and women are the same. Both beautiful to look at. Both way fun too ride. And both sure can hurt you. Hence both Demons and Angels

Disclaimer (pics were taken when I was in shape and I had just finished the chopper)

That is a great shot taken from the back of the bike. So you built it from scratch?

I'm not so much focused on the chopper, as I am with something else in one of those pictures. If you catch my drift!  :wacko3:

Yes. Well I didn't build the frame from raw tubing or hammer out the fenders. But I took blank pual yaffe fenders and shaped them, added to the tank to get the point at the bottom. Did all the metal work around the front of the tank, frame down tubes, seat back. Made the seat pan out of fiber glass. One cool thing. Paul copied the front fender design into his line. And the next year after I did all the big shows. I went to a few of the big shows again and several people had copied the back fender. I made it both rounded and smooth. But it also has over 150 sharp points.

When I rolled it out of my garage and started it up the first time. One of my neighbors came running over. And said I'm sure glad to see that.. We could hear you banging on stuff and swearing all the time..we all were wondering what was going on

A friend of mine is a professional photographer. And he likes to use my chopper for shoots for portfolios for models. Talking about fun.. (She is actually the make up artist for the girls of that shoot. She liked my bike so much she put a bikini on. To pose for some shots)

That picture is actually on the grass in front of the  Milwaukee art museum's bridge. He got permission to do a shoot on the museum grounds. The one picture of the 3 girls I have posted in the gallery is right in front of the door. (The Milwaukee art museum is used in one of the transformer movies)

Thanks, I put a lot of thought into every detail. I had never owned or even looked close at a v-twin before. Or done anything like this. I had no idea how to do any of this. After I started it. I decided go to a show. To look at some of the bikes and see how some things were being done. But it was November. And I had to go to Phoenix to find a big show. That's were I met Paul for the first time. And I bumped into him at a few of the bigger shows I put her into

Seriously, every chopper is a little different, and everyone has different tastes, but this one catches my eye in it's proportions and style. I don't have a chopper, but this is a perfect example for my taste. You should be very proud of the work you put into it.

You have very nice looking bike.  Given that companies like American Iron Horse and Big Dog Motorcycles are now out of business and had several issues (electronics and speedometers were themost common), you have something that is a higher quality build.

Very nice, DeerSlayer!   :hi:

Didn't you mention at the Central Rally that the only "specialized" tools you use on bikes are a nail file and a bowling ball?

The boots look out-of-place in the photo. A TRUE wanker would be wearing flip-flops.

Yup, nice work. You're hired! Now we just have to work on coming in under budget.

Steve

Yah Steve the best tool I ever bought for fabricating parts is the HF belt/disc sander. Other tools in order of use: craftsman orbital jig saw, die grinder, various hammers, and wire welder.

I'm not a fan of them, but if you have to have a chopper, then it's gotta have a big V twin, not a little 250cc parallel twin like that thing. I think the make is called Hunter, actually saw one take off from a servo one day, not sure where their made, but something cheap for the wannabe bikies who want the image but can't afford the real thing.

"Dull front breaks"? I thought they looked kinda exciting...all ripply and shit.

Yea, of all the poor spelling possibilities the Dull brakes was a good one.   I was hoping nobody thought I was serious.

"...an i guarantee that when you own this bike you are going to get heads turn and thumbs up all the time."

hmmm...  I don't get too many thumbs up on the FJ anymore.... maybe there *is*room in the garage for one more bike.

nah...

All ever got was all the girlies. Bitching at me cause I made it with no back seat.

That and I got pulled over 3 times by cops that just wanted to look at it.

I made a small one for my daughter. Looks just like the big one. Except I rounded all the points off. And the Demon Angel has a bikini top and shorts.
