After yesterday's injury I was wondering who else has bled working on their FJ's.
Ed let me know if my temporary exile is for the entire forum.
I'm not here to cause problems.

theLeopad,
Probably everybody here has shed some blood, if not on FJs, then on some other bikes.
Hang tough, and this too shall pass. :drinks: I'm just a newbie here, myself.

Does spearing the cat with the clutch push-rod count as drawing blood?
When I did the fork valves the other week, after putting the wheel back on I thought I might give the discs a touch up with sandpaper by spinning the wheel while holding my hand against the disc. (Bad idea.) Spinning the wheel backwards, the disc somehow grabbed my left hand and jammed the middle finger between the disc and fork leg.
The slots in those wavy discs are like knives and put a fair cut in the finger, probably needed stitches, but we're men, we're tough, so just put a bandage on it and went back to work. It's not uncommon for me when I'm tinkering to shout out to the missus and say ''I'm Bleeding" which the reply will be, how bad, and don't drip it on the carpet.
Tony.
Geez Tony that sounds like something I would do. Wont be any women around on manshed day to tend our injuries
No worries Stu, but it might pay to have a packet of band aids handy, just in case. :empathy3:
huh, sissy girl, i lost a hand once, but it grew back.

Probably not, but you really
should get points for "improving the environment". Maybe a tax credit or something.

Brian, you're not exiled, temp or permanently. I was just trying to tell you "Stop talking about rebuilding your motor". Resume posting as needed ...
Did you actually marf your finger, as shown? That didn't look good! :empathy2:
Is there an one here who has never put flesh to exhaust pipe?
So you're not "Burns" for nothin', eh?
dig it. "Scrapes, Cuts, and Breaks" are nicknames. I've had 'em all.

Learned early by jumping on the back of a Honda XR75 at age 10. Burned a deep oval on my right calf where it touched the hot muffler........ yup, learned not to wear shorts too.

Kinda a rite of passage , you must touch the exhaust headers to make sure all cylinders are firing . :pardon:
That's how your fingerprints get burned into your pipes . :rofl2:
Yeah, but it's healing quite well.

I doubt it. I remember a nasty calf-to-CB350 head pipe experience 40 years ago. think it's still a little pink there.

Um, that's what the squirt bottle is for...
With eighteen cylinders, feeling for the cold one would've burned my fingers back to my wrist!

Dude, I for one, am calling bull shit on your nonsense. The picture you posted above, shows extensive damage that requires plastic surgery to look half normal. There is no way that 4 days later ANYONE could look at that injury and say 'it's healing quite well'. You sir, are surely yanking this forums chain, and I'm a bit tired of it.
By contrast, I had a similar injury this past summer, from being crushed by a lawn mower.....
Here is what it looked like immediately after the injury:

Here is what it looked like after the plastic surgeon got done with it:
Here is 3 months of healing:
Here is 6 months of healing:
It was not until about the 3 months mark that I'd (or anyone really) would have said it was "healing nicely".
Accordingly, I'm saying you're full of shit.

Dan, he might be optimistic in the healing well part, but I met him yesterday, finger bandage as well, at the hospital. Before we parted, hours later he was bleeding through part of his bandage. I opted not see the injury, I have seen enough of that stuff working in a machine shop. call off the dogs, this guy had his finger tip pass through his rear sprocket with the chain as a guillotine.
Ghezzz can we talk about something else.... My finger is twitching... Hurts to think about that move. Glad you got to meet and help him along Mark. A few hours spent with a member that is familiar with the FJ go's a long ways in getting someone on the right footing. This is not the first time Mark has taken his time to help a lost FJ sole. :good2:
So whats the new tactical call sign for "theLeopard" ? Fingers or stubs ? Heal well Leopard...

I stand corrected then. He's not full of shit. I'd have bet (and lost, it seems) $20.00 that he was yanking our chains.... Anyway, Brain, please accept my apologies, and good luck with the finger.
So Mark, did you get a listen to his motor? DOES it need a rebuild?

His motor has issues (sounds good and started quickly) but not serious. He has an oil leak but he remembers seeing oil on top of the valve cover so the grommets will be checked. The noise that troubled him was coming from the chain slapping the unprotected swing arm, the hard rubber piece has fallen off. He plans to change the oil so I advised him to wipe the drain plug on a clean white paper towel and look for metal chips/shavings and to post pics if he was not sure. He is new to the FJ and its quirks, but he really likes his bike. I am glad I took the trip and helped him get his bike ride-able again. I like meeting new members and giving them a good shove towards Kookalooo.
Thanks for asking Dan...
Thank you Mark, guys like you are what makes this place special.
Dan, I had the same suspicions, but no more. Heal quickly and heal well Bryan!
I believe Papal attention may be justified. This example of Brotherhood puts you just one miracle from sainthood (cannonage?) I believe.

He'll be lucky to get any feeling in that digit again.
I once tried to adjust the spike on a speaker stand without taking the speaker off, by rocking the stand over. The weight of the speaker tipped it back and drove the spike through the end of my finger tip. Instinct told me to pull the finger away......................rip ! Its still numb now 20 years later I find it hard to put a nut on a screw left handed without looking.
Anyhow, if I havn't shed any blood on a daily basis I would not be doing the job properly (and it keeps the bodies immune system on its toes LOL)

Must have been a very interesting day....good on you Mark, like others I really thought this was a spoof..... :morning1:
Had me convinced as well that we were on a ride... BTW, Monkey, there's no way he could've pulled a fast one on you with the bandage and some fake blood, right? I mean, you said you didn't wanna SEE the damage, and that would make the whole thread epic, for sure. :)

I have no reason not to believe his injury, I picked him up at the hospital. I know its hard sometimes when we have had some story tellers string us along in the past. He seems to really like his FJ, I hope he stays active and contributes like many others here. It may have been just as difficult for him to believe that our advice was as coming from FJ experts. He was likely not aware that many of us refuse to take our bike to the mechanic. Instead we have become our own expert mechanics and use this forum for help and advice when we need it.
This is also good reason to get your collective selves to a rally near you. Meeting members face to face is so much better than just a screen name and funny avatar picture. Kookaloo brothers. :drinks:
Yeah, the hospital would be tough to fake. Well, good on ya, great job helping out a fellow FJ'er.
Good on you Mark. I didn't follow the thread too closely , but was wondering myself.
Years ago I raced go-karts and the owner of the series said that each person racing there would meet someone that would be a friend for life. Well I did end up becoming friends with someone from my go-kart racing days.
I have met three or four FJ Owners guys who I expect to be lifelong friends as well. As Mark said go to a rally. The guys you meet will be awesome. It also helps to understand different people's sense of humor as well as their general temperament, making small jokes easier to take from those we know.

I feel pretty bad about piling on, but it did look like a pic I had seen before. Thanks Mark for checking in and helping the guy out... that's a pretty rough intro to the FJ and he's right back at it. :dash1: :dash2: :dash1:
Good luck spots. I apologize for thinking the finger nip was a hoax. Please be careful around this toy.

I take it back. This is still an epic thread. Gnarly finger, bro. Hope it heals up nice.
