Bike is getting some needed TLC this winter and the paintable parts are at the painters now. I'm sure its available but my searches didn't turn it up. Can someone tell me the paint codes for the 91? blue and white.
also planning to turn the pink stripe to a gunmetal grey...will match my leathers/helmet a lot better than the pink will. but in a way i feel bad doing that!

Here is a comment that Leon added to the paint file when he needed some paint.
When looking for a paint code for the Blue (Yamaha Dull Purple) for my 1991 FJ1200 I struck out, so I went to my paint suppler and had them read the color on the bike with a devise they call the Prophet.
It takes optical readings of an existing color, and then makes modifications to an already know formula that closely matches the color it's reading and makes the necessary adjustments to come up with a mixing formula that can be duplicated to give you the color you're looking for.
This is NOT supposed to be an exact match, but comes VERY close to what I was in need of, and if you were to see my bike in person, you'd be hard pressed to figure out which parts I have painted, and which ones still had the OE paint on them.
So here is the formula I was given, using the PPG Deltron base coat system.
This will make 8 0z of color.

As far as I know, the white on the 91 FJ is the same Silky White from the earlier red and white years.

I personally have used the Silky White paint for the FJ1200 from Colorite and the match is very good.

Thanks Fred that's a good start. i suspect he'll run my tank to the paint shop as well and get it scanned (its original paint but the rest of the bike was not well painted) but this is a good starting point.
the white is a tricolour i think. or thats what he said at least....
i'm excited to see it reborn this spring. the repaint from the OP was not clearcoated and as such it was good looking from far but far from good. couldn't wax it, lots of pockmarks and so on.
will also be doing the engine, then removing the black from the edges of the fins.
and very likely polishing the headers....though i'm still pondering that effort vs return.

The recommendation from ColorRite for the Silky White is actually 4 parts.
1. Primer (grey)
2. Base Coat (white)
3. Color Coat (pearlescense)
4. Clear
My lower cowling was Red when I got it. I used the ColorRite Yamaha FJ1200 Silky White in the 4 parts. The results turned out very well.

I think with such beautiful paint colors, those front orange turn signal lenses look out of place. Some clear lenses and silver led bulbs would be the finishing touch....and some black windscreen button head allen screws...
I am not a big fan of blue for motorcycles. Except for the Blue on the '91's. I think the OEM blue is fantastic.
You have done a terrific job in making a replacement color for the Pink, look good. Very impressive. :good:
I agree with Pat, clear front signal lenses would look great. Maybe contact Leon (1tinindian) on where he got his set.

Thanks for the props Pat. Now can you give me some links to the lenses/bulbs? i've put the RPM smoked rear integrated signal/brake lite on and you idea is perfect!

With the clear lens, the amber colored bulb shows through and IMO takes away from the desired look. Pat mentioned useing LED bulbs. I have found that these incandescent bulbs work well and disappear behind the clear lenses.
