Title: Frickin snow
Post by: big r on January 04, 2015, 09:41:21 PM
Just so all you folks down south know it has been snowing here for the last 14 hours. We have gotten about a foot and a half so far today and it is still pounding it down. I need some sunshine and some dry pavement so I can feel the kookaloo again. Really tired of this crap. Everybody have a great week. Big R

I can feel your pain. I was 3yrs old when my Dad got transferred to Northeast Iowa and that is where I grew up. Every winter he swore he was moving back to Texas. He did in 1973. I have shoveled my share of snow. Six months of winter weather are not conducive to happy motorcycling or any other hobbies I enjoy. I moved back in 1978 and have almost year round riding. Sometimes a little cold so please don't send any snow this way as I no longer own a snow shovel.     Dave

I feel your pain brother! Its -10 here this a.m and about 3 inches of snow since yesterday, more on the way! My Kookaloo feels kinda weak too. Good opportunity to get those repairs and maintenance done...if you have a nice warm spot to do it in. Theres also snowmobiles...                         Hang in there big r!                                                                                                                                                                       Charley.

Got up at 4 am to go to work and could not even get the car out of the driveway. We have over 2 feet of snow and I got high centered and had to shovel just get back in the driveway. Road advisory in effect between Kamloops and Clearwater basically says stay home. Hopefully they will get us plowed out some time today. Have a good day. Big R

Big R,

Yeah, the need for sunshine is very real.  Next time you are able to get out, buy your house a bunch of real daylight lightbulbs (fluorescents also, if you use them).  They are not the cheapest, and they do not last as long as some, but everybody in that house will be happier, even if they do not know why.  Depression can kill, no joke.

We get some serious snow in Utah too, and the right lights indoors can help a lot.

Cheers,
Red

Lets just hope this winter weather will be short. Last year was a bad one. I have to walk by my bikes every day on my way out and think "on no its at least 3 months before I can ride again".

What you speak of is called, Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.).  It only affects some folks, typically those that are already prone to, and likely familiar with depression.

Here are the stats:  "About 4 to 6 percent of people may have winter depression. Another 10 to 20 percent may have mild SAD. SAD is four times more common in women than in men. Although some children and teenagers get SAD, it usually doesn't start in people younger than age 20."

Proper lighting can indeed help, if you are feeling the impact of it.  Not everyone does though.  FYI.

Dan

I bet the neighbors were looking and thinking "there is something not quite right about him"

Thanks for the laugh.

Well.. the sad/funny thing is my neighbors are not very observant.  My neighbor just across the street would understand since he also rides and use to race Ducati's in his younger years.

Can't believe I took that pic back in 2008....Had nearly 3 feet of snow in that storm, which is very unusual for the area.

No snow here, just cold, wet and grey.  Sun came out for a couple hours last week; it was 25 degrees but I put enough miles on the sled to bring her up to operating temp, charge the battery, and flush some stale gas out of the carbs.  Filled the tank and put her back inside. Feel like I did my daddy duty.

Damn it runs GOOD on that cold air!

Yes.. the forecast for the week looks good.. although I'm stuck downtown in meetings most of this week.. Suit and tie required.. add to the fact a couple of them are 12+ hour days..  :bad:

I'm sure people in the neighborhood think I'm a bit of an odd duck.. but WTF do I care?  The folks on my block are good people and I do what I can to help when they need it.  Everyone else can eat dog shit and die..

Amen!  The roads south of Denver melted and dried out a couple days ago... but I had to shovel 30 pounds of sand to make a passible trail to get out of my driveway!   Got to do a quick lap around my "tuning loop" -- but started having data logger issues again  :ireful:

I feel for ya' guys. However, I did the Harley Davidson Frosty Balls Poker run on Saturday, from Vegas to Mesquite, NV. Temps were far from frosty, mostly in the mid 50's, a bit overcast but no rain. So, 200 miles, some straight, some nice and curvy as my club rode back along the Lake Mead shoreline instead of just slabbing it on I-15. Rain did show up and continue all day Sunday. Guess what I'm saying is "Jed, move away from there.. The desert is where ya oughta be..."
To a short winter for ya all... :drinks:
