Title: FJ1100 Swing Arm Chain Rub/Seal Guard
Post by: ccmxr on December 16, 2009, 10:20:14 PM
Does anyone know if any other model/type motorcycles swing arm chain rub guard will work on an FJ1100.  The OEM part number for the stock one is 36Y-22151-01-00 and I know they still make the stock ones but every part supplier or dealer I look at has them either backordered or they are charging $100+ dollars for them.  Thanks.

You could use a chunk of teflon, delrin, or whatever other plastic and make your own easily enough.  It's a wear item and hard to see, don't worry too much on it!

Yeah that's probably what I will end up doing but I figured I would give it a shot and try and find a stock one or one that fit it pretty closely for a good price.

www.zanottimotor.com/PartsDept.html (http://www.zanottimotor.com/PartsDept.html) has it listed for $63.84 + shipping.

www.ronayers.com (http://www.ronayers.com) lists it for $74.24 + shipping.

If you have a local store that sells different types of plastic you could take it in and perhaps they can suggest a suitable type of plastic to use on the portion that wears.

Is this rub guard a simple shape? My company uses Delrin and other wear resistant materials and we scrap materials that might fit. Give me some basic dimensions and I can see if we scrap that kind of size. Once we get size figured out, we can see if machining is in order.

You might try looking in the for sale section on this site. There was a guy named Eric that was parting out a couple of 86 FJ1200s. He may have what you are looking for.

Thanks guys for the info I think I will get some good compound rubber or plastic and make my own.  The shape of it is kind of hard to describe and I don't have a picture to show but it is a wide oval shape that is open on the back end.  It has three support/fasten strips that run across it vertically and a little bump at the bottom back of it.
