Title: Opinions on my project,please.
Post by: turbocamino on December 26, 2014, 06:03:58 PM
I go back and forth from..."cant hurt" to...waste of time, :nea: to...should work ?  :unknown:  I did all the bearing too.

I feel like a proctologist looking up the Silver Surfer's ass!  :bad:

Yeah, that's shiny all right. At night, motorists behind you will be blinded by the reflection of their headlights.

Leon, Pat and Noel will be proud of you.

Doh! I couldn't see the forest for the hemorrhoids!

Interesting. Were you experiencing some sort of twisting or flexing?

Geez Steve, the hallowed company in which you include me is truly flattering. This could well be my 15 mins of fame, making up the Holy Trinity of bike polishers.

Sadly, a first hand inspection of my bike clearly shows it is not in Pat or Leon's league, but in future I will take photos from a little further away to string out the illusion.

Thanks for the inclusion.

Noel

Just a theory about torsional flex..as wheels get wider, tires better...felt like it was probable if pushed to a certain limit ?  Do i ride (much) near that limit ?...probably not.  Moditus rearing it head maybe?

I noticed the gussets right away. My first thought was you put a different swing arm on.

My philosophy on handling improvements. Is I need every advantage I can get. Even if I'm not good enough to use the improvement. Or even feel the difference. But with my limited skill set, it might be the difference that keeps me from putting my flesh too pavement again. That I didn't even know. (Because it didn't happen)

yes..pretty much my line of thinking....just want things to be the best i can make them. Total cost about $100.

Interesting.
I`ve noticed my stock FJ pulled in a mm or two when I nipped up the axle. Have wondered if that take up or pre stressing was part of Yamaha design to maximise strength. Is this normal? (Thought of adding a washer at the time.)...if it`s normal, did you notice much difference tightening your axle nut? ....or with the modded wheel did you make it spot on with no pre tension of swing arm.

I`m with the "should work" analogy.

mmmmm.......does your model have that lock nutted screw just clear of the rear of the motor? (from another topic re broken frame bolts.)
