Magnificent day here on the Sunshine Coast Queensland. (Everything plant life is rich from some nice rain recently).
Watching the Hostage drama from afar like you guys. Viewed the three hostages escape. Know there is now phone contact with the lone gunman...another 15 hostages in our prayers.
Yeah, thoughts are with the people still in there, now 5 in total have got out. Government has disarmed our whole country but that doesnt stop the criminals unfortunately.
Time for the Aussie SAS to step in ...
My best thoughts & prayers for the innocents involved!
Its a bloody farce , 11 hours on , 1 nutjob inside with hostages, a well positioned sniper could have taken him out 30 mins after it started, but apparantley we don't do that here. We have to "negotiate", urrggghh.
have to agree with you ray, the media have turned this into a frenzy of some sort, just shoot the f@#k wit.
If one moron can dictate the whole worlds news , god help us if these neanderthals got fair dinkum..
This guy is just a lone, muslim psycho with a political agenda. If he was a real terrorist there would have been 50 bodies there this morning. Terrorists dont negotiate either.
Joe Hockey must be rubbing his hands together, hardly a word in the media about his horror mid year economic update
[sarcasm] Wait... where'd he get a gun? I thought Australia confiscated them. [/sarcasm]
Hey Guys.
2 Hostages + Gunman dead,4 injured.Hostages made a break for it at about 2 am and gunman started shooting.Police stormed in with stun grenades and shot the gunman.
My heart extends to the families of the victims.& wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
The Gunman was a criminal rapist scumbag who is implicated in killing his own wife and proven to have sent hate mail to the families of servicemen serving in Afghanistan.
1 less oxygen thief scumbag in the world.
Hats off to the police.
Cheers
Jeff P
Senseless and avoidable...prayers for the families of the lost and those injured, may they find peace.

I agree with cheap shot.
Sad day, best wishes to all involved. Not sure how this guy wasnt being watched by anti-terrorism task forces, well known to police and was out on bail, the mind boggles.

Poorly timed, and I apologize for that. I meant no disrespect to those who lost lives, and my comment should have been reserved for the gun subforum.

Blimey, not content with labels and sweeping statements you then seek to underplay his actions. Not sure the families involved will think he wasn't a 'real' terrorist as you so charmingly put it.
I mean...really? :negative:

Absolutely, I wasn't thinking about the fact that this particular subforum is for our brothers Down Under, so I should have been more respectful.
I'm so sorry that such a beautiful country as Australia with a low violent crime rate has made the world news for such a disdainful act. My thoughts and prayers to those involved.

Labels ? Lone - yes, muslim - yes, psycho - well he was charged with accessory to murder of his ex wife who was stabbed and burnt to death, writing offensive letters to the families of deceased Australian soldiers and was facing 50 sexual and indecent assault charges. At least my labels are accurate, to call him a terrorist is not. I wasn't downplaying the tragedy of two innocent people being killed as my post was 8 hours before that happened and like everyone else, was hoping that all hostages would come out unharmed. Terrorists rely on shock, disgust and fear. They plan and act decisively. This fellow sat in a cafe for 16 hours wanting to talk to the Prime minister!
If this crime had been committed by a white middle aged Australian there would be no mention of him being a terrorist. Because of his religion ( Islam ) and nationality (Iranian) he was labelled a terrorist as soon as the siege started.
To say he was a terrorist gives him some sort of credibility which he doesn't deserve, he was just a scumbag and in hindsight it would have been better to take him out before anyone was harmed. It seems our politicians and media would prefer to keep us in a state of fear and will pull out the "terrorist" card at any opportunity.
Read Rupert Murdoch's comment on twitter and tell me then who you think is "charming"

There is some humour in this after all.
I appreciate you sentiment and apology and believe it to be genuine, but it's funny that the only fault you see is
where you posted it not
what you posted, that is, what you said would have been acceptable amongst your gun buddies.
Not sure what that says about who.
Noel
Not gonna let it go, Noel? Why am I not surprised.
I said it was poorly timed, you idiot. The gun control ramifications are already being discussed in your media. how long would you like me to wait?

The first two words of my apology were "poorly timed", which would tend to imply that my first concern was WHEN it was posted, not WHERE. I then added that I should have reserved it for another place. Any idiot should be able to comprehend that.

I have not one iota of interest in any ongoing discussion of this event and I'm happy to let it go, I simply commented on what I thought were inappropriate remarks and found your response funny. I did acknowledge that I believed you retraction/applogy to be sincere. That's it, finished.
BTW, it's forum etiquette to wait until your posts reach 3 digits before name calling, 4 digits and you can really let fly and for each 1000 posts thereafter these privileges are extended.

You are right, any idiot should be able to comprehend that and this idiot did and that was what I found humorous, and you still appear not to get it.
I'm happy to discuss anything here, although I prefer bikes, but as you've now made it entirely a personal slanging match, I'm done. (and I do not, and never have, pursued these sort of converstations offline, despite some peoples best efforts)

I'm in the US, I am based out of the southwest, but I travel close to 10 months out of the year for business. I get a couple of times a year off where I hope to be touring on my recently acquired FJ.My sister married an Aussie and he is in the Royal air force and he is stationed on the west coast but they move around pretty regularly as well. So, I check in on aussie happenings quite regularly. I have been over a few times, for the wedding and a couple visits. Maybe next time I get over, I will reach out and see if I can meet up with some members.
Gday copper, I thought you may have had some sort of a connection. My wife worked for a number of years in Cairns for the Dept of justice.
Poor little buggers..
