This will go over like a lead balloon. I'm selling the FJ today. There is a friend I work with here who has a Harley in storage in the U.S., but has the itch to buy something to ride here. So I agreed to sell my beloved FJ. He test rode it yesterday. When he returned, he said, "WOW, that bike has power!" At least the bike is not going far away. I've got my eyes on a V-Max. I've owned two of those, and love them.
Yeah, you can question my decision, that's your prerogative. My wife is even questioning this. In my 2012 accident I was hit in the head, so maybe my decision-maker is not working correctly. :wacko3:
Obviously I will not abandon this forum. I have the Hungarian orphan Christmas project going on, so I'll keep updating about that.
This has been the best forum I've been a member of. Received a LOT of technical help here. I can't thank you enough!
Bracing myself for the flaming replies... :shok:
Mark, ride what you will, but don't disappear from here! :drinks:

Don't quit this forum we need all the help we can get! I can understand going from a race car to a muscle car. Dave
Good for you to follow your heart. Vmax, nice.
You aren't the only ex-FJr to still haunt this forum, and certainly will not be the last.
You can always buy another, if you are jonesing for one in the future.
Its not so much what you ride...but that you ride, and the V-Max is a great dance partner! Enjoy it and dont stray too far away, I allways find your posts enlightening and entertaining! Take care. Charley.
Mark,
The Vmax is a great bike.........................Just promise you'll stick around......
You've still got the FJ in your heart! :drinks:
Make sure you post up next year at the dragstrip, with your Vmax!
Everyone's already said what I was going to say, so my next question is..., are you going to run the V-Max down the 1/4 mile? :good2:
Yup, stick around. That way you won't have to re-up when you purchase your next FJ in a few years..
Mark, there is nothing wrong with the choices you make as long as the choice was yours. It seems like everyone that has replied agrees, not one is trying to change your mind. You have been a great addition to this forum and I look forward to seeing more of your posts. So post up when you get your V-Max...

Just looking now. It may take a while. The drag race event here is May 1, 2015. So that's on my radar.
Here's the "other woman" I have eyes for. A current Hungarian-registered 1998 V-Max.

It was the "Knickers" post that put you over the line, wasn't it?
Steve
I can't add anything to the previous excellent posts Mark. I would say that most of us have had or still own different bikes. With friendships on line or other wise, it is the person not the bike you ride. No different than going for a local ride with good friends. Stick around Mark.

I felt the same way when I sold my FJ... TEN YEARS AGO. that's right, I've been a hanger-on to the FJ forum(s) for 10 years. Definitely stick around. There's a couple around here who never had an FJ, so we're still one up on them.
I can't add much more than what has been said, but I am a closet V-MAX fan.
You will have to keep us updated on that one!
I'm glad you are a part of our campfire.
Your threads and posts have meant alot to us here and we are better off having you here with us.
Take care!

Ahh the VMax, The one bike I've always wanted to ride. But still haven't had the chance.
Sorry to hear about the departure of your FJ.
I too am a fan of the Vmax. In fact I have recently looked at a 85' Vmax project bike, the owner backed out after I looked at it.
Fred
If any who lust for the Vmax, actually pull the trigger on one, then find that you cannot handle its awesomeness, then perhaps you should re-evaluate your manliness and go with the new Yamaha Smax...

I remember a kid in a motorcycle safety course riding one, and made us all look like idiots. He was so smooth and balanced. Always wanted to ride one as well.

Better still, get the new owner of your old bike to line up beside you at the drags

WOW, that would be awesome!!!
Just delivered the bike today, but rain forecasted all weekend. He was so happy to get it... like a kid at Christmas. He said there was no rush to deliver it, but I told him I know exactly how it feels. The sooner the better.

Well played sir. The Karma will be returned in due course.
You got to love the lines of the VMAX. I almost bought one but went with the FJ instead.

I read a report on the new model that said in the first 3 gears, regardless of the RPM, when you crack the throttle wide open it will break the rear tire loose. Gotta respect 200 HP!
Hey Lotso , get ready to spend some money on mods. check out the v-max forum and mods site.
Here come the flames=== I have owned 2 v-max's an 85 and 2001 . Although they look sexy and rumble and go straight , they don't turn or corner like an fj.
:diablo: So you are gonna want a chain drive conversion.
:diablo:next will be the boost kit to bring on all 6 carbs at once.
:diablo:then you will need a bigger rear wheel and a front end conversion .
:diablo:then the scoop conversion so they actually draw air instead of just looking cool.
I think you will miss the fj sooner than you think.
Have fun with the chain conversion , that gets rid of the shaft shuffle so do it first . with the right gears and the carb kit you can click off some 9 sec 1/4 ers.
it is ok to want a v-max , they are fun . get some leather chaps for your legs , the heat from the rad fan is gonna fry you.

When I sold the K13S I was looking for something different. I went the v-max direction and rode one... They are fast, but +10 on your statement above. One turn and I was back to my previous conclusion on cruisers circa 1988 (when I rode a lot)... it just doesn't work for me.
Lots of people like them and they beat the crap out of any HD for turning, but the most modded v-max won't stack up well against FJ's or any sport touring bike for getting out of trouble quickly.
Frank
BTW - end of story was the RD. Stable full for me with 3.

Damn, Danny, got me thinking. Sure enough, it's been about that same 10 years and two bikes ago for me too. Way to make me feel old!
To the point then, stick around, Mark.

"Gixxer Dan" - You're the first person I thought of as a former FJ owner, but still a valued member of this forum. :good2:
Mmmmmm, V-Max, look fantastic, and the grunt off the line is amazing. Well the one that smoked me at the lights 15 years ago did :)
I may have the danny's beat...
I have been attending rallies for 11 years... and never owned an FJ.

Ha! You give hope brother! I want to attend my first next year. Lotsokids congratulation on the Vmax-like you I sold my 86FJ after maybe 2 months of ownership but due to other issues. I will always keep my '09FZ-1 but based upon my positive experience riding the FJ I seriously want another one, a blue later model with chin fairing and all stock,
relatively low miles and single owner would be most perfect.
This is such an excellent forum I also want to stick around, I just seriously need another FJ-
Randy @rpm any suggestions, I'm in California also. I put so much work and a considerable amount of money into the bike I bought but knew once I got it all sorted we were not a good match, the model, however and I are! :good2:
sorry to hear the FJ is selling but when I first quickly read the post and saw Harley mention --- I thought dark side but then I read on and see that you are staying in the family -- good luck and start saving the money for rear tires...
Steve , you are getting your posts mixed up.
Lotso Mark sold the FJ and then went to pick up the V-Max but it was a bust . Ran like shit and was unsafe to ride 3 hrs back home .
So he is currently bikeless. :dash2:
I guess it was better to have two in the bush before you let one fly away. ( I might have skipped over a few posts .... but I got the Harley part right)
sc2
There's a lesson for us all. Don't sell your Fj until you have lived with its replacement for a month (maybe 3 months).
Someone write that down in a new fj sub- section - FJ LORE (ignore at your peril)
Andy
