Title: Electrical Question
Post by: oldktmdude on December 01, 2014, 08:26:22 PM
G'day everyone, been doing some overdue re-wiring on my '85, mostly around the headlight and associated plugs under the fairing. I'd previously bought a NOS instrument wiring loom, so decided to fit it while I was in the area. As I swapped the looms over, I noticed two wires that connect to a small panel which was glued to the back of the speedo. According to the work shop manual, this is the Reed Switch.  Can someone tell me the purpose of said switch. Thanks in advance.  Regards, Pete. :scratch_one-s_head:

The "Reed Switch" in question is attached to the back of the speedometer............
It is a magnetic switch, and should look like this.

On the FJ, I believe it cancels the turn signals after a set amount of distance travelled...............

+1 on the self cancelling turn signals. The switch closes and opens when the magnet from the speedometer passes it. Have the same unit on my XS650 and believe it is also used on the XS eleven.  Dave

Thanks for your quick reply Alan. I did notice on the wiring diagram, that the white/green wire went to the turn signal relay. That would explain why.  :hi: Pete.
