Since it is currently snowing again, and I have some down-time, I decided to re-visit my Side Stand again.
I have been using shims that I make from empty beer cans to tighten it up when it gets sloppy, but they don't last long.
I decided to make a longer lasting solution.
Ace Hardware had these...................Bronze bushings that are 1/16th" thick. They were $1.30
The inside diameter is just about right for the post that the side stand pivots on...........I used my Dremel to get the inside diameter just right.

They are slightly too thick, so I thinned it slightly with a 120 grit flap-disc on my grinder.

After a couple test fits, and slightly more thinning, it bolts together with no sloppy side play..................At some point down the road, I will search for a fix for shimming the post (which is where the problem of a sloppy side stand actually comes from), but for now this works nicely.
The other half of my Side Stand project comes from having raised the rear suspension earlier this past summer............
I wanted to find something to raise it up, without really having to spend much money on it, so I tried to search for something that I had laying around in the garage. (at one point, I almost considered using a piece of wood). I also didn't want something that weighs a lot, and have it sagging over bumps..
Then I stumbled upon this piece of plastic panel that I wasn't using for anything(It came attached to a fuse panel that I am using in my Jeep).....................It's 7/16" thick............I figured I could just stack 2 pieces of it, and screw it to the bottom of my Side Stand.
It cuts like butter with a sawzall......................

I also purchased these stainless steel screws (1/4-20) while I was at Ace Hardware getting the bronze bushings. These were 60 cents each.

The first order of business, was grinding the bottom of the Side Stand flat.
I used my bench grinder to get it mostly flat, then followed up with my 120 grit flap-disc.

Then it was drilling the 2 holes, and tapping them for 1/4-20 thread.

Next came marking, then drilling the stacked plastic. 1/4" drill bit, then I used a 1/2" drill bit to countersink the holes.

After cleaning everything up, I used a little blue threadlock on the screws, and put it together.

Then I followed it up with the 120 grit flap-disc..............................I also ground down the tips of the screws flush with the top of the Side Stand Foot.

Now I have a 7/8" "Boot" on the bottom, that doesn't weigh very much at all, so the factory spring should hold it up with no issues.
I degreased the whole thing, and used a thin coat of etching primer, then followed with a couple coats of semi-gloss black...............

I'll wait overnight for it to dry, then lube the pivot with some grease, and assemble it tomorrow after work. :good:
You suck!!! Well maybe not so much... I need to find some similar solutions now that I have dog bones to adjust my rear ride height... The hockey puck solution is not that far off... Good post, thanks...

I had thought about using a hockey puck (they are cheap at the used sporting goods places) but they are also dense, and I wasn't sure if it would be too heavy...........

That's my kind of resourceful fj tinkering, well done Alan. Inspirational stuff.
I just got a plug of brass around 2 mm larger than the diameter of the hole in the side stand, bored out the hole in the side stand to a gnats dick narrower than the brass plug diameter, pressed it in there and then centre bored the brass to the diameter plus a gnats dick of the mount pin.
No rattle any more!

We'll see how the plastic material holds up...........................I have an old Jeep engine mount with a block of rubber large enough to make a "Boot" out of, if I have to re-do it down the road............
