Title: Coil caps!!!
Post by: Tree3cv on October 14, 2014, 03:21:26 AM
Helloooooo all,

I have a set of coil caps in my shed n whilst rooting around found them.
Of course the little monkey that resides in my head popped up and has now convinced me they need fitting on my '88 3cv.

Any ideas rom info on this mod at all anyone??
I'm thinking it should be pretty straight forward but then again I may be wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the best
Tree

Coil cap?   Do you mean spark plug cap?

If so, make sure they are resistor caps, or change your plug wires over to resistor wires.

I think he is talking about modern caps that have the coil built in. http://store.schnitzracing.com/categories/electrical/ignition.html (http://store.schnitzracing.com/categories/electrical/ignition.html)   Grab a Motec ignition while you are on the page. :i_am_so_happy:

Purchased 2 of te level three pro kits for a ZX10 last year. $10,000 each. (OK I didn't but the team~NEYRA Racing~ did).

Ok, thanks Mike...

In the Miata community we call them "coil on plugs" or COP's

Very interesting to see if COP's would work on our FJ's using our oem ignition box. On the NB1 Miatas we needed the dwell signal lengthened to use the COPs, they would run hot otherwise.

On our FJ's the top of our air cooled motors get awfully hot. There is something to be said about mounting the stock coils in the airstream.

Nice. A buddy of mine has an older unit on his Drysdale....I think just the cables etc cost 1,000.00 and that was like 15 years ago.
