Title: Heading out on my first trip.
Post by: Tuneforkfreak on September 24, 2014, 09:08:02 PM
Well I've put about 500 round the house miles on the FJ  since I got it  put together. I think I've worked out all the bugs and feel pretty confident in her, so tomorrow I'm off.
Got the saddle bags on,  gonna throw the tail bag on, load up some things and hit the road. Heading down to the hills of Ohio. Gonna meet up with some friends and ride a bit.  :good2:

Enjoy your ride :-)
That's a pretty part of the country this time of year.
Just make sure you watch out for those 4 and 18 wheelers who are sometimes really trying to get you.

Have fun.

If you get a chance, ride 666. Been there, done that, a few times. A lot of good riding in the area of SE OH.

Enjoy!  I got to spend some time riding around there a few years ago, taking back roads from a Boone FJ rally to a week working on-site with the Kenyon College physical plant.  Afterward, I rode home on back roads through Kentucky.  Great riding country.

Take pics.

Well, my trip got interrupted  about 70 miles down. Bike was running extremely well as I hammered down rt 33 into the hills. I was nearing a 1/4 tank so I stopped at Sunoco to fill up. Left out of there and 5 miles down the rd the bike started to act up and lose power, I made it to an exit in Logan and it completely died. Pulled the tank swapped 4 plugs and it fired up, I immediately headed to the auto parts store ( bike acting up) as I only had one back up set of plugs and I was running on them.  I bought eight plugs( all they had)  then I headed back home. Long story short, used all the plugs and made it a 1/4 mile from the house then had to push it the rest when it died. Drained the tank and bowls today, added 5 gallons of fresh gas and it fired right up and runs like it always did. Moral I learned,A bad tank of gas can make a mess of ones plans. BTW the gas had no water in it but looked almost clear, I'm thinking the gas at the station had separated and I got a straight up 3 gallons of ethanol or something? If this is the case, my bike sure as hell don't like ethanol. Here's where I messed up, I thought I'd get better gas so I got 92 oct when in reality the cheapest gas is the freshest gas as that's what everybody buys. I 'll never do that ever again, from now on my bike gets the cheapest gas at the pump. This is what I felt like all the way home ->:dash1:

Total Suckage! And Yup, bad gas can ruin a whole day. Last bad gas I got had major water drops in it.. Happily, that was years ago..
